The Blues continued their hot streak last night, beating Nashville 1-0 in a shootout. Had to be a sweet, sweet victory for goalie Chris Mason, who made 47 saves in a shutout over his former team. He also stopped both attempts against him in the shootout. Had to be satisfying doing that to the team that benched him last year and then shipped him to St Louis. The Predators outshot the Blues 47-17, but Mason was the difference.
The Blues are now 4-0-1 in their last five games, moving themselves back into the West mix a little bit. The streak is all the more impressive because it has conicided with multiple injuries to Andy McDonald, TJ Oshie and Patrik Berglund, and with Paul Kariya still out. They've simply played hard, opportunistic hockey, and gotten great goaltending lately.
Also encouraging is that the wins have not come against bottom feeders, with the five games against Chicago, Montreal, Anaheim, Minnesota and Nashville. The four wins all came against West teams that the Blues are chasing in the standings.
Hopefully, the Note will continue to get great goaltending from Mason and Manny Legace and keep this streak going. Upcoming games against Colorado, Edmonton and Atlanta follow this week.
