Earlier this week Eastern Michigan fired head coach Jeff Genyk. Genyk had been the Eagles head coach for 5 seasons and has a 15-42 record. I predicted that Coach Genyk would be fired this year, so that turned out to be right. Creating a list for a team like Eastern Michigan is tough, because with bigger schools there is usually at least one candidate that you think of off the bat. Not the deal here, as I doubt anyone grows up dreaming about coaching in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Anyways, here's five people that could consider the job:

Glen Mason, former Minnesota HC - I feel like Mason is dying to get back to coaching, but to make it to a big school he needs to do a good job at a smaller school. Here's the opportunity he needs.

Mark Farley, Northern Iowa HC - Farley has done a great job at his alma mater, currently boasting a 63-25 record as head coach. He won the Eddie Robinson Award last year, and his team is currently 10-2 this year. Eastern Michigan would be crazy not to try and persuade Coach Farley (all I can picture when I hear Coach Farley is Tommy Callahan on the sideline singing "Fat Guy in a Little Coat" with a headset and a playbook).

Scott Shafer, Michigan DC - If Eastern Michigan ever wants to get a coach from Ann Arbor, this would be the year. Mediocre is a nice term for Michigan's defense this year, but not a whole lot of people are waiting for this job. Shafer has experience in the MAC (DC at Western Michigan), and I think it could work out after a couple of years.

Joe Moorhead, Akron OC - Akron's offense has been good this year, and I think that Moorhead should be commended for the Zips' success. Moorhead has been with Akron for three years, and I believe that hiring him would be a pretty darn good move for Eastern Michigan.

Darkhorse Pick: John L. Smith, former Michigan State HC -
I believe that this year will let the world know if Coach Smith is ever coming back to coaching, as I think there are some teams that could be interested in the former Spartans head man. Eastern Michigan could be one of them, but I wouldn't be shocked if Smith said "thanks, but no thanks" to become the next Eastern Michigan head coach.
