It's Iron Bowl weekend, which means the season is truly winding its way down. Alabama has an undefeated season, a chance at the national championship and the chance to end a six year losing streak to Auburn. The way the Tigers are playing it's hard to be skeptical, the way 'Bama's been playing it almost seems a forgone conclusion. It seems any statistical category where there is any distance between the two teams is dominated by the Tide. All this adds up to Alabama being a two touchdown favorite on Saturday, which is a hard point spread to argue against. If Auburn wins it'll be a massive scale upset and the Tigers will use it as psychological ammunition for years to come.
Florida and Florida State resume their rivalry also Saturday with the home team Seminoles a 16 point underdog. I think FSU has a slightly better chance of upsetting Florida the way they've been playing. They gave Maryland a good no-nonsense thrashing last week and haven't had a half bad season. If not for a three point loss to Georgia Tech they'd be a 2 loss team with wins over Miami, Virginia Tech and Maryland. Do I think they'll beat Florida... no. The Seminoles have a strong running game that could keep Tebow off the field. Georgia had the same plan and they're most likely(!) a better team than FSU. Florida and Bama should rule this weekend.
Oregon State is a 3 point favorite at home to Oregon. This game is always a dice throw. They love spoiling each others seasons. State has more to lose this time around with the Rose bowl and a Pac 10 title within their grasp. The way the stats lie it looks to me like the Beavers have the right combination to pull it off. Rarely do things go like they're supposed to in the 'Civil War', but OSU should edge the Ducks.
Oklahoma is a 7 point favorite visting the Cowboys. Ok State has a strong running game and good defense. A lot like Texas. The Longhorns have Colt McCoy and an explosive passing attack but still struggled with OSU. OU is insanely explosive right now but can they move at will against the Cowboys? I feel this game will be close but Oklahoma should win if they don't make too may mistakes, namely turnovers and penalties. A grinding rushing offense could cause fits if the Sooners defense gets frustrated or too aggressive. The was OU played against Texas Tech I'd have to believe the oddsmakers in this one.
Georgia Tech is at Georgia Saturday an the Bulldogs should be able to take out some frustrations on their in state rival. Ga Tech has won some big ACC games but lost a couple they shouldn't and came close to losing more. Unless the Jackets have a great game plan and execute flawlessly Georgia should roll.
Other ranked teams may fall this week but predicting anything would be a shot in the dark. Maryland has the best bet to dislodge Boston College but that's unlikely with BC being at home.
Great lineup this weekend, enjoy...... Bones
