I'd love to be able to tell you the highlights of the game this afternoon between James Madison and Wofford in the 1st round of the Division 1-AA playoffs. But in order to do that, I needed to see the game.
Sorry, gang. This game was NOT televised. You read that right. NOT televised.
JMU won the game, 38-35. Fortunately, I did listen to the game on radio...but that's not the point I'm trying to make.
Sure, the App State-South Carolina State game was televised (on ESPNU). But excuse me for pointing out that JMU is the #1 seed in these playoffs. And still no one wanted to televise this game?? Forgetting for the moment I live an hour's drive from Harrisonburg (where JMU is located), I'm offended as a fan that the (potential) 1-AA champion isn't seen by the masses because of some bureaucratic b.s. by ESPN.
Let's hope once the matchups are set for next Saturday, that somebody gets around to showcasing the talent in 1-AA. (Oh, for the App State fans: Seems they had a hard time dispatching S.C. State. Personally, I want App State to make it to Chattanooga for the 1-AA championship game...so that JMU can lay the smackdown on 'em a 2nd time!!!)
Meantime, there are late games in these playoffs. Somebody update THOSE for everyone, all right??

Just curious - did ESPN buy the rights to the early rounds?
It can be said the decision was made by the ESPN program director(s). It would be more accurate to say the decision was made by the expected ratings. If the ratings aren't there, no use railing against ESPN - they are a business making a business decision (go figure).
What I might recommend is ecouraging people to ask ESPN to run the games late night. Then the only issue is sending the film and broadcast crews to the game. You might even get it dropped more if the teams and colleges filmed the games.
