The first computer ranking is official and it looks pretty dismal for the Texas Longhorns.

The Sagarin computer ranking has Oklahoma ranked #1 in the nation with Texas not too far behind. Check it out when you get a chance http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt08.htm

I understand the anger that is felt by all UT and Texas Tech fans. You lose one and your whole season is shot. Both will go to Bowl games and both may stake claim to a Big 12 South co-championship, but the computers don't lie.

Here is why OU is ranked #1:

5-1 record vs. Top 30 teams.
2-1 vs. Top 10 teams.

Texas and Texas Tech on the other hand is 3-1 vs. Top 30 teams and 1-1 vs. Top 10 teams.

I can hear the argument now from UT fans... "We beat Oklahoma!!!!!" But don't forget that Tech beat you.

The bottom line is that UT and Tech are getting a raw deal. These teams are all equal, but Mizzou needs an opponent and this is the way the Big 12 decided to handle it... to let the BCS rankings decide in case of a three way tie.

The human polls and the other computer polls should follow the Sagarin rankings which means OU is in, Texas and Tech are out.

Sorry guys, you truly did get hosed this year.

OU would've been hosed if their season ended with on loss as well. I know everybody likes to point out that the cotton bowl is a neutral field... but it is in Texas. If Texas were to play OU today in KC (..North/South Championship? why bother...the talent is down south) OU has the win.

November 30, 2008  12:28 PM ET

How are UT and Texas Tech getting hosed? Sure the BCS might not be the best way to handle it. But if you take into account records of uncommon opponents, margin of victory between common opponents, or ANY other standard criteria for breaking down a 3-way tie, OU STILL comes out on top. I refuse to feel sorry for UT or its fans, as they are simply trying to use the 1st tiebreaker as the ONLY means to resolve a 3-way tie that's already reached the 5th tiebreaker. If anyone other than OU were to get in, it truly would be a tragedy.

November 30, 2008  12:58 PM ET

So once again UT fans will have to sit and watch 2 teams we beat play eachother for the Big 12 "Championship" game -- then watch OU embarrass the whole conference in the big game.

November 30, 2008  01:28 PM ET

They knew the rules.

If TU wishes there were a different method for breaking ties, maybe they can lobby the Big Twelve to change the rule before the next season.

November 30, 2008  01:49 PM ET

Blah,Blah,Blah...Tech won on the last play with no time on the clock,on a pass thrown behind the receiver to the sideline.Luck, luck and more luck...we dropped a ball that should have ended the game just before that...AND we played teams in the top 11 four weeks in a row before the lucky pass with no time. And oh yeah,"45-35"....Enough said.

I think your upset because you idiots spent money for a plane to fly around the Bedlam series and still didn't help. Boo-Hoo, we played teams in the top 11 four weeks in a row, where are those teams now? We played the same teams except for Mizzou and dominated. I don't understand why you texas fans don't take in consideration that Tech beat the nobhorns and enter that into your equation. 3-way tie means there are 3 teams involved. If we didn't go, it would have ok because Tech was right there. Still need a pacifier?

what is stupid are these conference championships. No one seems to talk about this. The conference "championship" should be between the 2 best teams in the conference if you are going to have one, not the best team vs the 5th or 6th best team. That is what is so silly about all this. Why is Missouri even playing in the conference championship? What is this game settling? All it does is give a 3 loss team a chance to knock one of the Big 12's one loss teams out of the national championship picture. Its simply a stupid silly unnecessary game played by a conference who in its quest for more money, is simply shooting themselves in the foot.

I would LOVE to see a OU - TU rematch. Today. OU 61- TU 34

OK Sooners, now is your chance to represent the Big 12. But how do you expect to go up against Florida with no defense? In your supposed "signature" road win, Oklahoma State hung more points on you than they did on most of their other opponents, including Baylor and Washington State!

I wish you, and the Big 12 conference well, but if recent history is any indication -- Texas will dominate their bowl performance, and OU will roll over and play dead. Then voters will wish they matched you up with Utah or Boise state (who already embarrased you once).

Oh, and as for that UT vs. OU rematch? I believe coach Stoops said it best a few seasons ago --"There are no muligans in college football. You need to take the field ready to play every week." Maybe next year...

November 30, 2008  05:01 PM ET

hey montanagrizfan dont be an idiot. Seriously? 61, 34? What are you even basing that off of? Is it the fact that you fail to see how terrible OUs defense is or is it the fact that you are just an idiot? Or is it both? Seriously? 61-34? You're ridiculous.

UT beat Oklahoma and Missouri, the teams playing in the Big 12 championship game and they're just gonna watch. OU is gonna embarrass the Big 12 once again like they did against Boise State. They're gonna kill Missouri, everyone will get on OU's nuts, and OU will lose big against Florida or Alabama. It's flat out retarded how it works. And you cant forget the 45-35 score because it's a 3 way tie. Texas Tech would have ZERO chance of getting in the national championship game even if it beat Missouri in the Big 12 championship game. The two teams that would have a chance is Oklahoma and Texas and when you try to decide between the two the only clear evidence there is is 45-35.

and #1 mhharber each team gets an equal number of tickets and the place where the game is played is actually closer in distance to the sooners. So quit worrying about the national picture and worry about your sorry **** buffaloes.

College Football really needs a playoff. This kinda stuff is just ridiculous. If OU beats Mizzou in the Big 12 championship game, just expect them to embarrass the Big 12 once again.

November 30, 2008  05:08 PM ET

And Bob Stoops is flat out stupid.
Before he plays A&M, he says that style points are important and should be factored into the rankings.
Before he plays Oklahoma State, he says that style points don't matter, the only thing that matters is a win.

And for Oklahoma, seriously, good luck going up against Alabama and Florida with your terrible defense (ranked 66th in the nation). The Big 12 will once again be put to shame.

November 30, 2008  05:16 PM ET

The basis of sports is competing against someone else. Whether you are from Texas, or Oklahoma or Japan, if you had no idea who the two teams were, but they had identical records and you wanted to determine which team was better you would play them head to head on a neutral field, to eliminate home field advantage. That is the purest most objective way to determine the better team. That's exactly what happened and Texas won.

On another note, OSU is no Florida. Texas has mostly underclassmen in their secondary and held OU to 35 points, Florida has a top 5 defense and is number one in strength of schedule for all of college football. OU proved last night, they couldn't stop a mobile quarterback. Have any of you Sooner fans even seen Tebow and Florida play? Don't just show blind loyalty, look at the facts. Florida is a bad draw for OU or anyone for that matter. At the end of the year, you'll see yourselves ranked behind Texas, where you belong.

November 30, 2008  05:33 PM ET

I only feel bad for that Texas DB that couldn't hold on to that pass with 20 seconds left in the game. When he dropped that ball, there went the votes. Alabama better bring their best game because, Ala vs Fla could be one of the best games ever or, a number 1 team might get blown out.

November 30, 2008  05:56 PM ET

First off to the person who called the OU-Texas game essentially a home game for Texas obviously did not watch the game and knows very little of that specific game. EVERY year the attendance is split down the middle. EVERY year the game is in Dallas. Dallas is further from Austin than it is from Norman. So YES that was a neutral field game. Meanwhile, so many people are giving OU props for the way they have finished their season and been "hot". This is a joke, the whole season should be considered. And please, don't throw margin of victory out there because Texas wins by 25.3 without their starters playing in the fourth quarter and no they might not be scoring 50-60 points but their opponents aren't even reaching double figures sometimes. OU wins by 28.5 while keeping their starters in, but at the same time they are giving up about 25 points per game. Tech wins by 18.3 by leaving in their starters and throwing in the waning minutes of games already in hand. So don't talk style points. Their is no formula to truly decide this. But if the decision is about most impressive win of the the Big 3 in the South then Texas has it with a neutral field win.

November 30, 2008  07:21 PM ET

I love the arguing back and forth while I believe there is about a 50/50 shot that they will play each other in the BCS championship.

First - Florida has no real shot at this. they are just too far behind in the computer polls and with the hidden extra weight that the computers have, its just too much to make up. Especially with the three of the five teams ahead of them in the computer component of the rankings done for the season.

So the question is - does a loss to Florida drop Bama enough to fall behind Texas? i just don't know. But i am almost sure that the math says the NC will be played betweek Alabama, texas, and Oklahoma.

November 30, 2008  07:53 PM ET

Actually the winner of the Florida and Alabama game will basically automatically have a spot in the national championship game. If Bama wins, of course, they will go. If Florida wins, beating the #1 team will boost them in the computer rankings a lot more and all the human voters will start forgetting about the 3 way tie situation and will boost Florida high enough to get one of the spots. And of course, if Oklahoma wins they will go, and if they lose, Texas will go. And theres no way Missouri will beat Oklahoma. Missouri's coach is terrible and there is no way they will upset Oklahoma, even if the game is in Kansas City. So basically as gay as it is, its gonna be OU vs Florida/Alabama.

Just to further screw things up, I would LOVE to see Missouri beat OU for the Big 12 title.

What a mess that would make of the BCS standings!

This is the most rational thing I have heard in the entire debate.
