Since the Yankees don't want to offer Burnett a five-year contract, the Braves could become the front runner. The Braves just traded for Javier Vazquez, but they are still looking for more. The Braves are rumored to be preparing a five-year offer for A.J. Burnett. Could Burnett be dealt before CC makes his decision? I'm sure A.J. rather not until he finds out what Sabathia gets, but with all the other teams leaning away from offering Burnett a 5th year..he might just leave for Atlanta.
-If the Yankees obtain Burnett, then the team would surrender a first round pick because A.J. is a Type A free agent.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashmansays he hasn't ruled out bringing back Abreu, but it's clear that it is not a priority.
Said Cashman: "They haven't called me and I haven't called them."
