Was there really any chance that Mizzou would beat Oklahoma?
After the Big 12 South debacle, it was obvious that the kids from Norman needed to makea statement, and a statement they did. OU's 62-21 win in at Arrowhead stadium sent a loud message to the Texas Longhorns and each BCS computer and voter... you got it right.
In a program that was built on defense with names like Selmon, Boz, and Casillas, this bunch of Sooners proved you can win a championship by lighting up a scoreboard. In the process of dismantling the Tigers, the Sooners broke the NCAA record for most points scored in a season with 702, breaking Hawaii's 2006 mark of 656 points.
It's not all about Sam Bradford and his Heisman arm. It's about the defense that puts him in a good position (recovering three turnovers to OU's zero), its about the special teams that returns punts and kickoffs away from the endzone to give the O room to operate, and its about the running game. Last night with DeMarco Murray hurt on the opening kickoff, Chris Brown and third-stringer Mossis Madu each ran for over 100 yards and stuck it in the endzone three times.
This was a massacre, and embarrassment that even had Boomer and Sooner hiding. After a score in the third quarter, the ponies called it a night from their traditional gallops on the field after an OU score.
Bob Stoops summed up the game, "Sam Bradford again is just sensational," Stoops said. "The defense really stepped up. We had a huge lead before they gave up anything in the second half." He added, "We were in a championship game and we were going to play to the end."
The only question, who will OU play? Florida or Texas?
Both will be good for football, but whichever team gets left out will have an argument.
Remember, OU lost to Texas in Dallas and Florida is behind in the polls and will have to jump Texas in the computers.
Whatever shakes out tonight will be exciting when the BCS pairings are announced.
Thoughts?
Sports By The Numbers - Stats of the night.
Here are a few numbers from last nights Oklahoma - Missouri game.
5 - Number of straight games that OU has put 60 or more points on the scoreboard. Last team to do that five times straight was al in 1920.
333 - Time left on the clock (3:33)when OU scored its last points of the night, a 37 yard scamper by Mossis Madu in the fourth quarter.
384 - The number of passing yards put up by Sam Bradford on 34 of 49 attempts. Bradford accounted for two of the Sooners scores. Just another day at the office.
419 - The number of points that Oklahoma has scored since losing to UT in Dallas. OU has outscored their opponents 419-205.
800 - Time (8:00PM ET) that the game ended. It is also the time that the game started. There was really no chance for Mizzou to beat OU. That's too bad or Longhorn fans.

OU fan should enjoy this but deep down they know that UT still put that one loss on their loss column it has to be a hollow victory knowing that deep down the system put them where they are.One last thing what percentage of OU players are from Texas???

Those players chose OU becuase it's a better team. That doesn't say much for UT and your statement guy. And if the voters thought that UT should've been in the game, then UT would've been voted ahead of OU. If Texas wanted the bowl game they should've played better agains TT and OSU. Losing to Tech was your fault, and OSU coming into your house and almost knocking you down didn't look so hot. OU put themselves where they are by convincingly beating down tough opponents all season long and improving themselves in areas that were once weak. Our victory is very fullfilling, and watching UT and it's fans whine and crumble adds to the sweetness. On to miami! BOOMER!

Hey - Mindofmine --Well put-Great comments!! Very Diplomatic - I know so many Texans, even family who find Longhorns to be very arrogant. Granted Texas is a huge state - lots of great teams but there is a lot of instate sibling rivalry and downright hatred for the longhorns. Percentage wise, Oklahoma fans outnumber longhorn fans 5 to 1. Luvin the great job and accomplishments from the entire Sooner Nation!! On to The National Championship Game with Pride!!

Let's look at #1 and #4 in the AP poll. Why is Florida now ranked ahead of Alabama? They both have one loss. In fact, Florida's loss is to an unranked team. So what gives? Oh yeah -- that's right, Florida beat Alabama on a neutral field!
So now lets look at #2 and #3. Two one-loss teams, yet UT beat OU on a neutral field! I can accept OU winning the Big12 because our rules for determining a tiebraker are stupid. But there is no reason why OU should be going to the title game. Unfortunately, that won't become obvious until the Sooners lay another national title egg like they did against USC and Ohio State. Heck, they couldn't even beat Boise St.!

Boise State was a Sr. laden good football team ..there was no shame losing to them. They had a solid game plan......Oklahoma has not been firing on all 8 Cylinders the last few games they played in the BCS, but to expect that to always be the case is foolish! They stay in the mix annually....other teams have and didnt even make it to the title game. Oklahoma is overdue..bigtime....they post consistent 10 win seasons and have a mini bowl game every year at the Cotton Bowl (and due to the petty crap texas has been flinging everywhere , they should consider moving that game somewhere else!) Florida was a good pick even tho they lost to and unranked team....before the BCS it that had of happened they would have dropped out of the top 10 and may not have been able to have fought their way back.....texas lost late....back of the line tex! Due to their body of work , the best two teams are probably fixing to give us a game for the title this year.
