Why, oh why couldn't it have been Al who got canned?? Oh no, we can't have that. No, he fires his son...
Yep, Mike Groh--the former Virginia QB, who wound up being his old man's QB coach--was made to walk the plank along with 2 other assistants today as the sacrificial lambs for Al's ineptitude of a 5-7 season.
Amazing, isn't it?? You'd think it was Dan Snyder running the athletic department @ UVA, and not Craig Littlepage. At this stage, I'm not so sure it isn't the "Prima Danna" occupying the A.D.'s office in Charlottesville.
What it took George Welsh decades to build up, Al Groh has destroyed in just 8 short years. This football program has become a fricking laughingstock in the ACC, and this prick is to blame.
You'd think after all that time sitting next to Terry Holland on the bench, plus serving as his assistant A.D. (before succeeding him in the A.D. job), that Craig Littlepage would know WHEN to cut bait. Then again, he hesitated to send Pete Gillen packing before the damage to the basketball program came about, so...we're STUCK with another year of Al Groh on the sidelines for "Mr. Jefferson's University".
But I heard something today, that gives me hope. I learned this listening to a local sports talk station out of Charlottesville (while doing my laundry...lol), where someone e-mailed the host about how to make VA Tech fans sweat. (The e-mailer actually went by--I kid you not--"TechFan".) Anyway, what he proposed was that perhaps they can lure either Phillip Fullmer or Tommy Tuberville to come to UVA.
I can't find fault with either one. Hell, Fullmer has a national title @ Tennessee...and Tuberville got screwed out of one a few years ago @ Auburn. BOTH of them are a damned sight better option than Al Groh, IMO. And both of them would command respect from the fan base...unlike "Oh No" Groh.
Please, if there's a God in heaven, make this happen!!! Either one, I'll be happy with. NO MO' GROH!!! NO MO' GROH!!! NO MO' GROH!!!
