Somebody needs to be fired at the end of the season.  I don't know if it's Mangini or Schottenheimer, but one of them or both are being stubborn to winning.  Schottenheimer has the plays and the skills to be a good OC, but his playcalling is horrible at times.  Mangini, who likes to focus on the little things, hasn't figured out the biggest part of winning football.

Football, and especially late season and post season is based on MAYBE 3 things.

1. Thou shalt not turn the ball over.

2. Thou should control the time of possesion.

3. Thou must be able to run and stop the run.

During the 5 game win streak Thomas Jones and Leon Washington were effectively carrying the ball 30-35 times a game.  Favre was throwing around 20-25 times a game. The time of possesion was good, the defense was getting off the field, they were handling teams like Pats and Titans fairly easily.  Favre didn't have the ball in his hands too much, and they relied on run instead of pass.

Then suddenly last week, as if winning had become old and boring, the Jets decided in a rainy game to run Thomas Jones....for 1 half of football.  He still finished with 138 yards on 16 carries. But why 16 carries???Why in a game that is not the best weather, where your playing an offense that can put up points, but plays horrible defense do you not try to keep their offense off the field. While Jones easily ran for a 59yard TD, he was rewarded by not giving him the ball 25 -30 times in a bad weather game.  Instead he carried only 16 times in what could have been a career game!

Lesson learned? Run the football? NOPE!  This time they said, we'd rather let you run 10 times for 51 yards ( a 5.1 average  no less).  The outcome, is a sad and miserable loss to the 49's.  The 49's? How does someone who's entire job, and career to figure out how to put points on the board fail to see that running has won you all your games, and throwing first has lost you so many? Is it Schottenheimer or Mangini that is the fool?

There is a mix between run and pass, I've seen other teams do it.  It happens when you don't pass, pass, pass, and follow it by run, run, run.  There's a rhythm that I think the coaches forgot, because Brett Favre is not going to win you football games.  Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are.
