Matthew Stafford? Yesterday on ESPN they showed Todd McShay's Projected NFL Draft Top 5 Picks in the order of each NFL team's current record. The Detroit Lions, as everyone knows, currently has the #1 Pick, and barring some kind of miracle, will have it come April. Everyone knows they need a QB and that Culpepper is not the answer, so they should go after a QB. So McShay's #1 pick in the Draft is none other than Georgia QB Matt Stafford. How long has it been since a Georgia player has went first in the NFL Draft? Well, I don't have time to look it up, but my guess is long, long before my time.
So, many wonder, is Stafford what Detroit needs to turn the team around? I say no. Not because Stafford isn't a good QB, but just because nothing seems to succeed in Detroit (look at the auto industry). If the Lions skip over Stafford, they will never hear the end of it. No matter who they pick, the Lions' future will still contain many, many losses.
If I'm Matt Stafford and I see this report, I would be 50/50 on what to do. On one side, it's the #1 PICK IN THE DRAFT! And on the other, it's playing for THE LIONS. Well, as they say, money conquers all.
