"What ever happened to (insert athlete's name here)?" This is a question I find myself asking all the time. "They had some potential, they could have been great, they could have made it to (Cooperstown, Canton, insert any other HOF location)!" Well, this morning I've decided to just find out what happened to 3 random athletes thats names pop into my head. All of the information I find comes from Wikipedia. Trust it or not, here's the list.

1. What ever happened to Johnny Rodgers? - Now you may be wondering why I have Rodgers on here, someone that played around the time my dad was a teenager. The reason is simple. I've looked over all the Heisman winners, and Rodgers was one of the few winners of recent history that I had never heard of. I've read that he was arguably the greatest punt returner ever, and in 1972 he won the Heisman. Rodgers spurned the NFL and went to the CFL to play for the Montreal Alouettes. In four years in Montreal, Rodgers won the Jeff Russel Memorial Trophy twice (for Eastern Division MVP and CFL runner-up). In 1977 Rodgers came back to the USA, but hamstring injuries led to the end of his NFL career after 17 games. So, where is Johnny Rodgers now?   Rodgers is a businessman in Omaha, Nebraska where he operates a sports marketing company and bedding products manufacturer. He also works with his alma mater to encourage athletes who dropped out of school to return and complete their educations. Rodgers is either created or has created a mentoring program for children with other football and sport professionals.

2. What ever happened to David Greene? - Had to put this on here. When Greene left Georgia, he left with the NCAA record as the winningest QB, 42 wins in four years, passing Peyton Manning. He is also the SEC all-time leader in yards gained with 11,270. David Greene was drafted in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2005. He was expected to compete for the backup spot, but he struggled, leading to Coach Holmgren expressing dissatisfaction with his progress. Seattle released Greene in September 2007. Greene signed with the Patriots and was released two months later, he signed with the Chiefs and made it to the active roster only two be released in July of 2008, and Greene signed with the Colts only to be released two months later. I hate to say this, but playing in the NFL looks done for for David Greene. So, where is David Greene now? Can't find a whole lot on Greene, just that he along with Kevin Butler and David Pollack own BullDog Park, an RV facility.

3. Whatever happened to Terrence Edwards? - Edwards was a great WR at Georgia, and he went on to be signed by the Atlanta Falcons after the Draft in 2003. He was active for six games, but only made one career reception. He was released in 2004 after an injury in the preseason. So, where is Terrence Edwards? - In Canada, eh! In 2005 Edwards signed with the Toronto Argonauts only to be released and signed by the Montreal Alouettes. After two seasons in Montreal, Edwards went to Winnipeg to play for the Blue Bombers. 2007 was his breakout year in the CFL, as he was the league's fifth leading receiver in receptions (80), second in yards (1,280) and tied for second in touchdown receptions (9).

Whatever happened to John David Crow (Texas A & M) ?

wikipedia: Crow resigned from his position as athletic director in April 1993 to invest as a limited partner in a greyhound racetrack. At the time of his resignation, the Texas A&M football program was embroiled in a scandal over students accepting money from boosters for jobs they had not performed. He was succeeded as athletic director by Wally Groff. As a result of the scandal, the Texas A&M football program was placed on five years probation and was banned from television or postseason appearances for one year. He then took a job as the fundraiser for the university until 2001, when he retired.

Nice post; seems like there's a lot better "What ever happened to..." subjects than what's presented however. A follow-up post about persons not from Georgia would be cool. I would love to see this be a monthly blog. Good stuff.
