The Yankees signed CC Sabathia on Wednesday to a 7 year, $161 million contract but he can option out after his fifth year. On Friday, the Yankees signed former Toronto Blue Jays ace A.J. Burnett. CC and AJ in the same rotation? If you have those two guys, you probably have the best complete pitching rotation in baseball. Right? Wrong. The Yankees have three of the best American League pitchers and they have not finished signing big time players. They have reportedly been looking to sign free agent former Milwaukee Brewers ace Ben Sheets. Sheets will get as much money as Sabathia and Burnett but he'll get enough where he will have to accept. If the Yankees get him, they will have the best rotation in baseball. Chein-Ming Wang, CC Sabathia, and AJ Burnett all have had more than one 15 win season. They will continue this year. The Steinbrenners have put together a great team and they will not stop until they are satisfied. With the skill of the offense, they Yankees will have enough run support to back up these skilled pitchers who are in their primes. They are taking Milwaukee Brewers one by one. They have signed Sabathia to the biggest deal ever for a pitcher, they are about to sign Ben Sheets or possibly go after Cliff Lee, and they are about to finalize a trade that will send Melky Cabrera over to Milwaukee for veteran Mike Cameron. Cameron will not stay too long in New York because of the age factor but he can hit and play the field very well. They Yankees have been trying to work on a new outfield and with Manny not yet accepting the Los Angeles Dodgers offer, he might be looking towards the Yankees. The Yankees might sign him because of Bobby Abreu leaving the team. Bobby has talked to the Tampa Bay Rays along with Jason Giambi and they both might go there. The Rays have money to spend and adding these guys would possibly complete the missing piece that gave them a loss in the World Series last year. If the Yankees get Manny Ramirez, the outfield will be brand new with Manny in left, Mike Cameron in center, and Xavier Nady in right field rather than Hideki Matsui in left, Johnny Damon in center, and Bobby Abreu in right field. Ben Sheets has lost some of his popularity because of injury late last season and missing the playoffs which would have been his first career playoff series. But he is still remembered and I am very surprised that free agent Cliff Lee has not yet been signed. He won the Cy Young Award and he went 22-3. He was the best pitcher in baseball but everyone forgot about him. When the Yankees are done with Ben Sheets, they should go out and get Cliff Lee because he doesn't demand for more money, he just wants to play ball. AJ Burnett will be useful to the Yankees because he went 14-6 against the division last year and 5-0 against the Red Sox, some problem the Yankees pitchers can't do. With the Yankees going after Teixeira or Manny, the question is, will that offer and deal make the Yankees too good to be true? They have so many players and they want more in this terrible economy. This will be terrible for fans even with the new stadium because with people losing money to the market and the economy is costing people money, no one will be able to pay for the Yankees tickets. Being a Yankee fan, I like the fact that Steibrenner wants to stack his team but no one will go to the games because of the extremely high prices. This team will be great next year. Xavier Nady will get signed and everyone else can leave but this team will be extrordinary and go deep into the playoffs. The only thing standing in the Yankees way is the salary cap and they can survive that. This team is my pick for the World Series Champions.
