With the BCS title game four weeks away, you wouldn't know that Bob Stoops is already tired of the hoopla. The break is too long between games and we all know what happened the last couple of times that OU was in a title game back in 2003 and 2004. Jason White had just won the Heisman in 2003 and Adrian Peterson was the talk of the town in 2004 and the Sooners were ready to go... ?
This Saturday another Sooner snagged the Heisman making Sam Bradford only the second sophomore to ever win the award (Tim Tebow also won the award last year as a Soph). You would think the season was over by looking at everyone's faces. Mom crying, dad beaming, Sam saying the whole world was "unreal," and proud Coach Bob smiling in the background.
But NO! The season is not over and the Sooners fully understand that. At least Bob understands that. That is why Stoops wishes the game could be played tomorrow instead of the scheduled Jan. 8. To put it behind him and deal with the outcome ... good or bad.
You see, this is a must-win for Stoops. He knows what's at stake.
When he arrived in Norman, it didn't take too long for him to hoist the crystal ball. In fact a coach that wins the title in his second year should go down in the school's history as a genius. And most likely Stoops will. BUT he has lost the last two title games, lost the last two Fiesta Bowls, and of course everyone in Texas will remind him that he lost this year's UT game and made it to the Big 12 conference championship game with some controversy. Which means that "Big Game Bob" needs this win for his legacy.
That sounds so absurd. Winning one title should be enough for any coach, but not for Bob. Just getting to Miami will not be enough. "Everything’s a factor," Stoops said Sunday night. "You’re aware of what’s been said about our program." - Bob Stoops,
Head Coach, University of Oklahoma Football

I may be mistaken but i'm pretty sure they mentioned that the last one was '04. Need to read a little more closely next time. Anyways, Stoops is a great coach whether i like OU or not. Any coach that can keep his team near the top year after year deserves respect. Personally i hope Florida comes out on top only because i'll always pick an SEC team over any other.

No doubt that if OU wins the title it will cement this as one of the great seasons ever and Stoops' status as a legend.
OU will have played perhaps the most difficult schedule ever. TCU (11-2) just won so OU has already played four 11 win teams (TCU, Cinci, TX, TT) with FL making it five. . . from four different conferences.
IN addition if OkSU and Mizz win their bowl games that would be 7 games against 10 win teams. If those same teams get bowl wins it may turn out that OU will have played 6 of the top ten teams in the final standings. I suspect that has never happened before.
If that does not solidify Stoops nothing will. That of course is a lot of IF's. . . (oh yeah, and that pesky loss to TX.)
