Found out today when I got picked up from school that Rafael Furcal is heading back to Atlanta. The shortstop, who played his first six seasons with the Braves, has reportedly agreed to a three year, $30 million deal. This is big for me, as I see this as a way to make the Braves contenders for the 2009 season. And it's not all just about Furcal coming, but the position he plays.

Rafael Furcal is a shortstop, and so is Yunel Escobar. Escobar was mentioned to be part of the Braves/Padres deal that would have sent Jake Peavy to Atlanta. So Furcal's signing could mean that there is still a chance of Peavy playing in Hotlanta. However, I have read and heard reports saying that Furcal might just move to second base, forcing Kelly Johnson to play left field.

I'm worried that Furcal might me going down hill, but I love this deal! Furcal was a piece of the Braves' teams that I first started watching when I was 7 or 8, and he always identifies with me as a Braves player. I believe that Furcal still has some good years left, and hopefully he will be a part of an Atlanta team that makes the postseason.
