Since when have you become Jesse Jackson? We have all heard Charles Barkley's sound bite, so no need to go over it. Lets look at the comparisons of Turner Gill to Gene Chizik.
Gill, Buffulo (keep in mind they play in the MAC)- 15-22.
Chizik, Iowa St. (keep in mind they play in the Big 12)- 5-19.
But lets look at his experience before taking a next to impossible ISU job. DC at Texas (when they won their National Championship), Auburn (when they had their undefeated season). He has coached players like Michael Huff and Aaron Ross.
Gill's experience. QB coach at Nebraska, producing Eric Crouch (Heisman), and Tommie Frazier. He also was a WR coach. Nebraksa won 3 NC in Gill's tenure.
Chizik uses styles from some of the greats including Monte Kiffen, and Tony Dungy.
Gill's Bison's have been improving steadily every year. So they both are very good choices either way, but I would definitly take Turner Gill.
This is when I get mad. Turner Gill is a great coach, give him credit, but what Charles Barkley got me mad not only as a white man that respects everybody equally, but as a football fan.
"I'm just very disappointed," Barkley said. "I just thought Turner Gill would be the perfect choice for two reasons: He's a terrific coach and we needed to make a splash. I thought we had to do something spectacular to bring attention to the program. Clearly, if we'd hired a black coach, it would have created a buzz."
He is making it seem as if he should be hired BECAUSE he is a black man. Why not talk about his great coaching, or the fact that he is a good coach.
I am always upset with these people who say that it is 2008, yet there are still barely any black coaches. It upsets me greatly because I thought what people wanted was a world were everybody is treated fairly, but it appears this goal has gone astray. Maybe the white coach is just a better coach, and it isn't a race issue. I wonder if Gill and Chizik's resume were switched and they picked Gill, would white people act this way? Probably not. The bottom line is, is that it is 2008, and race is no longer an issue; so come up with something real to report. Thank you, God bless, and good night.
