that doesn't mean what everyone assumes it means.
everyone is assuming that it means that the redsox are pulling out of the mark teixeira derby. shut up.
that is not what it means at all. if anything, that comment was directed at scott boras, and scott boras alone.
boras apparently said that there was an offer on the table from another team woth 23 million a year for at least 8 years. there was no offer worth that much, and boras knows it. as it seems, the redsox know it to. they are just saying "if you want that much money, then i guess we aren't a factor, we will not give you that much money, bet we would still love your services here in boston, and we know your lying, but if you feel that there will be an offer that high, well, we're not going to out bid it, so i guess we are not a factor"
