So, it’s time for the second edition of Stupid Comments from Around Fannation.com. I found some good ones since we last met and I hope you too appreciate the low quality of commenting these extractions represent.

I’m thinking that I’ll have a monthly awards post for bad comments. I think I’ll call them the Golden Maddens. I’ll try to think up some good categories…like the Captain Obvious award and the Most-Painful-To-Read Award. Look for that next week-ish.

Against The Grain -- Sunday's Week 15 games

“gay queer writer could hold Lawrence Taylor or Reggie White's jock.” – k*b

This guy’s referring to Andrew Perloff, the writer of the “Against the Grain” posts. I’m all about insulting Perloff, possibly one of my least favorite writers ever, but this insult is quite ineffective. It just doesn’t flow, thereby rendering the insult useless and makes the commenter look like an idiot. So, I ask this from all Fannationers: Please don’t make Andrew Perloff’s awful posts look better by comparison to your stupid comments.

Against The Grain -- Sunday's Week 15 games

“QUOTE: ’7. Six of the Packers' nine losses have come by four points or less. ‘
Actually being a native speaker of English, I would have said "fewer" not "less" (since you are referring to something countable, i.e., "points", as opposed to something that comes in a mass, like time, sand, water, etc.).” – D * B

This just pisses me off. The commenter first quotes something from the post, than corrects the grammar. It’d be one thing if the post was written by Plaxico Burress, but it’s not. This guy is trying to be the “Nick, You Company’s Computer Guy” of Fannation grammar. Comments like that are immensely more obnoxious than they are helpful. In fact, it makes me want to use ‘fewer’ and ‘less’ incorrectly just despite of this guy. Riddle me this, is the grammar wrong in this sentence if I end it with a preposition?

You want to see an actual slaughtering of the English language? Try this out for size…

Will Favre, Mangini return in '09??

“i will hope that mangini doesn't his conservative plays impede favre type of plays.favre is a gunslinger and mangini is conservative, how can you lose to the lowly raiders and seattle?.the jets were their own worst enemis” – i**a

I had to read this one several times before I was convinced I was reading it correctly. Just that first sentence, it goes in like three different directions. I hope this person is comments more better on and pays teacher helping money them spell and write with goodness.

Angels interested in signing Manny

“who wants to pull my finger? my farts smell delicious.” – P******** ***k

What?

(I’ll admit, I laughed a little)

How Redskins spied on Westbrook

“Quote: ‘Garrett will not be the head coach next year. And I doubt Jerry will fire Wade after this year. The 2 big plays the Ravens scored on weren't because of bad coaching. It was because of missed tackles by the man Jerry franchised this past summer (Hamlin). And can someone explain to me why the Cowboys drafted Roy Williams#1 over Ed Reed a couple years ago?’

I disagree.

Both Ed Reed and Ray Lewis specifically said after the game that this Dallas offense was so simplistic that they knew exactly where they were going and when

On one play just before they gave it to T Choice to, you could see Ray Lewis line up and point and scream to his left...All be damned if T Choice didn't go exactly where Lewis pointed. I rewound that like 5 times in disbelief that he knew that exact run” - J*************S

Could someone explain to me what the comment has to do with the quote??? “I disagree, and my reason is a bunch of crap that has nothing to do with what you said…” What the guy said isn’t wrong, but I just don’t see the correlation. Perhaps we should translate this comment instead as “I disagree, but I’m not going give you any reason why because I’m going talk about something else loosely related with no transition whatsoever.”

Favorite Comment of the Week Award

Against The Grain -- Week 16

“Dude ---I don't know if you were trying to be funny about Pennington not throwing anything over 14 yards.... but you certainly make it appear to folks who haven't followed him this season that it is true. Simply put---it's a flat out lie and I have no idea why you would post such garbage.

Also: A coach comes in and turns a 1-15 team around to a possible 11-5 team who could win their division and you don't consider him for coach of the year.

Dumb Dumb piece today.” – B** **a

I support just about anyone criticizing Andrew Perloff on one of his ridiculously stupid points he tries to make in his posts. This was in response to two things Perloff said. (In order of what the comment refers to) First, that Chad Pennington hadn’t thrown a single pass over 14 yards, and second, that Bill Belichick deserves Coach of the Year over Sparano, Smith, and Harbaugh.

What a good burn on Perloff, who once again this week confirmed he is a giant tool. Perloff has the worst opinions and it’s nice seeing someone argue with facts (commenter) instead of someone trying to create controversy with stupid “opinions” (Perloff). I mean, does Perloff really believe the crap he writes or he is just trying to purposely be “against the grain.”

I’ll tell you my three favorite things about this comment:

1)      He pointed out a completely made up statistic (whether it was an exaggeration or not)

2)      He referred to Perloff’s post as garbage

3)      He called the piece dumb

Couldn’t agree more, my friend…

I’d also like to add that lots of people made the same point against Perloff and I’m pretty sure 90% of the comments are anti-Perloff, which is nice to see.
