Like a lot of people this holiday season I'm "back home" visiting friends and family - which for me meant getting on a plane and flying to Florida.

In retrospect, knowing I was going into the heart of Gator Country, I guess I could have given a bit more thought to the Sooners hat I wore before getting on the plane, or the OU pullover I wore when I went to Wal-Mart today for last-minute Christmas shopping.

What the heck - it's just a game, right?

Well, I'm only 20 miles from the UF campus, and apparently it is much more than just a game.

On the plane, the guy sitting behind me bumped my seat during the flight, repeatedly, until I finally leaned out in the aisle and shot a look his way. "You know where this plane is going, right?" the guy asked me. He pointed at his own hat: UF. And then he pointed at his shirt: Tebow.

Fanatic.

Anyway, at baggage claim the stares were pretty unnerving - home sweet home.

Today, like I said, I went to Wal-Mart to do some shopping, and though I left my OU hat at home I did wear an OU pullover - and the reactions from the fine folks who make up Gator Country?

Predictable, of course.

I got a "Sam Bradford could never play in the SEC and didn't deserve the Heisman."

I got a "You have got to be kidding me."

I got a "Yeah, we'll see how proud you are come January."

Very vocal, these Gator fans.

I also got a ten-year-old kid who, at the urging of his dad, confronted me near the checkout counter. The dad said, "Hey, buddy." I wondered, for an instant, if I was supposed to know him or something. Then the kid ripped open his jacket revealing the tee-shirt underneath.

And then after I busted out laughing (couldn't help it) I got a high-five from a ten-year-old Gator fan who told me, "Tebow's gonna kick your butt."

Well, maybe not mine, exactly, but we'll see kid. We'll see.
