After watching Crosby's "goal" in OT vs the Sabres that looks pretty decisively to me to be over the cross bar, I was pretty certain that the league treated him unfairly. Then I saw him cheapshot Valabik on Atlanta and it was confirmed. The Gary Bettman-NHL is in love with this kid. Yes, he's a good hockey player. I'd be dumb to argue that. But he is not as exciting as Ovechkin and he isn't as behaved as Ovechkin. Anyway, the worse part here is that Crosby was neither suspended nor fined for this. Such a cheap shot is far more brutual, violent, uncalled for, and dangerous than any comments about sloppy seconds. While one may argue the hit on Briere was a little bit of a cheap shot, it was no where near this bad. So, 3 things have been confirmed:
1) The NHL has potential, but it will never be reached unless Bettman leaves. He can't get hockey on anything better than Versus, and he's unfair to make his undeserving face of the league seem better than he is.
2) Crosby doesn't deserve to be the face of the franchise. He can't control himself.
3) The NHL is scared to bring ANY negative attention to Crosby.

One of many hits. That was the only clean one. For some reason he kept trying to take out Geno in that game... Not man enough to fight either. Even Crosby does. That nut-shot by Crosby in Atlanta was pretty lame, but he isn't poorly behaved. I also would say that goal looked pretty fair to me... I mean, ****, it went in who gives a ****. Great redirect in my opinion.
Bettman does suck. I think everyone agrees there.
Crosby can control himself, and his play is actually far more exciting than Ovy, he just doesn't score all the goals. Watch Sid's setups and say it isn't exciting.
I saw that highlight from the Atlanta game about 100 times on ESPN, so... yeah.

Ovechkin would definatley drop the gloves before Crosby. Crosby doesn't even drop the gloves to hit someone. and Ovie and Malkin are rivals, which is why they kept going for each other.

I think Crosby's game, and the "cheap" shots, is a direct reflection of how he is handled by other teams/players. I've watched many of his games. He is the TARGET of numerous cheap shots as he is the TARGET of many players...everyone would love to PLASTER the "posterchild" of the NHL. Everyone wants to put that hit on him that gains the attention.
I don't care for Bettman...but having Crosby, a Canadian born superstar, as the face of the game is definately a positive thing.

I'll take Zetterberg any day over "Bing" Crosby. He's not ready to be the "guy" of the NHL. Zetterberg is class, period. When his team gets down, he scores a goal or sets up a goal. That is what a hockey player who is a leader is supposed to do. Face it. The "kid" is still a Kid.
