Well well well, look at what the Yankees have done. It should be no surprise to any sports fan out there. The Yankees are spending money, right? Yes they are. However, they have the highest 2009 payroll and still may go get more big name free agents such as Ben Sheets and Manny Ramirez.
I am a Yankee fan but it just makes it hard to root for them after they basically bought an all- star team! How do you even root for a team that is pouring half a BILLION dollars into their team during this recesssion? People can't feed their families and the Bankees are pouring money into a baseball team! Posada, Teixeira, Cano, Jeter, Rodriguez, and Sabathia on the field at one time IS an All-Star team. Then you add Manny Ramirez to the outfield and you have 3/4ths of the AL All- Star team in your ball park for 81 games.
Speaking of that new ball park. My honest opinion of the Yankees is they feel the need to WIN. They haven't won a World Series title since the 2000 season. Let's face it, they have to win. They are going into a BRAND NEW ball park with BRAND NEW faces and if they can't win with all that going for them, THEY CAN'T WIN!
The Yankee team that couldn't win with Posada, Teixeira, Ramirez, A-Rod, Jeter, Cano, Sabathia, Sheets, Lowe, Burnett, and Wang WILL BE the most disappointing team in MLB history.
So let's say it's October, and they Yankees are heading to another World Series. No big deal right? Well, considering they had 9 All-Stars this year, they should be in the World Series. Fast forward a month to their victory parade after winning the World Series 4 games to 1.
If all this happens, how can you say the Yankees did something 'special'? How can you say they did something that no other team has done. (I.E. the Tampa Rays). There is ABSOLUTELY no way no matter what the Yankees do that they will be considered special. No way! They would have to come back from 3-0 in at least 1 series to even be considered as doing something special.
All that being said, it's hard to root for them. As a Yankee fan, it's hard to root for them. It's going to be even harder to watch them lose!

While I agree the Yankees should be expected to win because of what they have done this offseason that definitely doesn't mean I won't root for them and that REALLY doesn't mean I won't go nuts if and when they win it all.
