I, for one, am tired of people talking about the Yankees. This talk usually splits in two categories, I will address both...
1. The Yankees spend too much money! They're ruining baseball!
These people need to shut up already. The Yankees spend more money because they have more money. If they don't spend it, it goes into the owner's pocket. Would you rather they get a new infielder, or a new house for Hank Steinbrenner? As much as everyone else detests them, Yankee fans support their team. Because of this, the Yankees can afford to hand out the big contracts. Instead of whining about the Yankees, why don't you spend some money on your favorite team? Since the money the team receives determines how much they are willing to spend on talent. Don't hate the Yankees for having fans.
Besides, they've outspent everyone for the last several years. How many championships has it gotten them? They're not making the league any less competitive.
Also, Red Sox fans really need to stop complaining about the Yankees. And I say this as a Red Sox fan. We're not so different, them and us. Do you guys not understand that if the Yankees go down, we become the big spenders? Do you want to be Goliath? Do you want to be The Evil Empire? Because I don't.
2. The Yankees are now great! They have the best pitching rotation! They'll win the AL East, easy!
Calm down, you delusional homers. The Yankees still have major holes. Their rotation is very fragile. Let's look at their prospective starters:
CC Sabathia. Sure, he was great in the second half of last season, but that was in the NL, which is essentially Quadruple-A. He's not in the best shape and the Brewers worked him like a rented mule because, in essence, he was.
Chien-Mien Wang. Very talented, but coming off an injury.
A.J. Burnett. Carl Pavano is very... excuse me, A.J. Burnett is very talented, but he's been very inconsistent and injury-prone. He's only made 30 starts in 2 seasons, and they were both contract years. The Yankees signed him to a 5 year deal, not a good idea. Be prepared for 5 underwhelming seasons from Carl Pav... excuse me, A.J. Burnett.
Andy Pettitte. He'll probably come back, and he'll probably be mediocre at best.
Joba Chamberlain/Phil Hughes. Joba has yet to prove he can handle being a full time starter without injury. Hughes has yet to prove he isn't terrible.
How about their lineup? Outside of A-Rod (the anticlutch) and Tex, they don't have much on offense.
Their bullpen? Outside of Mo, it doesn't look too good.
At this moment, I think the Yankees are the 3rd best team in the AL East, behind the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays. They've got some good pieces, but they're basically a house of cards. One injury to one of their injury-prone stars, and they all go down.
So, in conclusion, shut up about the Yankees! It's not even Christmas yet, you jerks!

Simply HAVING relief pitchers does not mean you have a "solid bullpen." Outside of Mo and Marte, are any of those guys solid?

Here is a question: did Boras end up hurting his other "BIG" client, aka Manny? OK, if the Yankees give him 3 years and 75 mil then no. But if the Yankees decide not to give it to him after signing Tex, then Manny may have to take a pay cut from what he hoped for.

Good blog Pitt. Couple things I'd like to addres though. The first topic I'm going to address in the comment section is the spending of "too much money" by the Yankees. If people have not realized this, but they are spending less money than they have in year's past, and people are proclaiming that they are the richest team in the universe. Mark Antonasio is now proclaiming that because of the Yankees spending this year, we need a salary cap. I'd be the first to say that I disagree with him, because the Yankees are spending less than they did last year, and just because they spend the most doesn't mean that they will win the World Series automatcially.
Now, for the second issue I'm going to discuss, is the fact of the pitching of the Yankees. CC Sabathia is going to help them out, and just because he had a bad half year on a bad team, the Indians, doesn't mean that he will have a bad year with the Yankees. I'm predicting that he will have 15-20 wins this year. AJ Burnett is injury prone, but I think that he can give you 10-15 wins this year, even if he gets injured, he can still give you some soid numbers when he is healthy. The bullpen for the Yankees is decent, but it does need some work. Wang and Chamberlain in the starting rotation are going to help out. Also, mlbtraderumors.com is saying that the Yankees don't seem interested in Andy Pettitte anymore and if they aren't going to pursue him, look for Hughes to be starting in that 5th spot. Now, that is a pretty good starting rotation. Wang is a good pither and he can give you very good production numbers when healthy. Look for CC, Wang, and Burnett, when healthy, to be dangerous with Joba and Huges rounding out the rotation. You better watch out for them.
They won't win the World Series, but they will win the AL East and make it to the playoffs.

Good blog. The only reason the Yankees are the "Evil Empire" is because people talk them up to it. Shutting up will help solve the problem.

Bud Selig should take a page from the NBA and implement a salary cap. Having teams throw an unlimited amount of money at players does ruin a sport by creating large pools of talent. If you want teams in small markets to really have a chance then you have to have a salary cap. It makes things more competitive, so the teams that are champs are so because of chemistry, determination, and hard work. Not because they have a bigger check book. This being said I freaking hate the Yankees and hope that they suck as badly as they did this past season.

Somehow I doubt the Yankees want people to stop talking OR complaining about them. Even negative attention is still attention to them. To the Yankees credit, I don't hear anyone over there claiming they've won anything yet....regardless of what they've done so far this off season.
