Ah, the holidays. They never seem to be quite as happy and cheerful as the carols would suggest. Life gets pretty hectic this time of year for most of us. Endless crowds to fight through while shopping, traffic jams a mile long, phone calls from every charity around interupting dinner, office parties nobody really wants to attend but everyone feels obligated, relatives that can barely tolerate one another trying to be friendly with each other for a day, everyone expecting something of you.
You get the point.
The holidays can be quite hectic. Depressing at times, even. Most of us tend to get so caught up in our own problems this time of year that it's very easy to forget what is truly important in life and what the whole holiday season is about.
It's not about the shopping, it's about watching a childs eyes light up on Chrismas morning. It's not the gifts themselves, it's the sincere act of giving. It's not the parties and fake smiles, it's sharing time with those you truly care about. It's not the misletoe, it's the person under it with you. It's not Chistmas dinner, it's the care that went into preparing it.
As NORAD tracks Santa's route today, as you may be doing some last minute shopping, or preparing for tomorrows meal, whatever it is for you, just remember what this season is truly all about. Cherish those you love, reach out to friends and family just to let them know you care and are thinking of them. A phone call to those you can't be with would mean more than any present you bought at the mall or bulk Christmas card ever could. Don't let the trivial things this time of year keep you from what is actually important. Be thankful for what you have, rather than lament what you don't. Above all else, enjoy your loved ones and make them feel special...remember, they've been going through many of the same hassles you have and could probably use a big holiday hug.
Merry Christmas FanNation.
