You heard it here first. From now on free agency will be re-named Yankees free agent signing period and all free agents will be given bloated over paid contracts to play for the New York Yankees.
The special signing period where teams used to be allowed to negotaite with their own free agents no longer exists.
All complaints should be sent to the new Yankee stadium in care of Hank Steinbrenner and he will get back to you as soon as Hell freezes over.

Tell your favorite team to stop putting their money into their pockets and invest it into the team.

Yankees suck, plain and simple. Selig and MLB needs to step in and enforce a salary cap. It's ridiculous the commissioner feels the need to regulate who can and cannot own teams but allows the Yankees to spend almost $500 million buying every free agent out there. This is on top of already having the highest payroll in all of baseball by a huge margin.
Even if the Yankees do win the World Series, it won't mean a thing. World Championships are won, not bought. Get over yourselves, New York! Talk about an inferiority complex!

Wait a minute, wait a mintue, wait a minute.
You're upset because more teams take all the money they get in revenue sharing and instead of investing them into their own teams, the owners put the money into their own back pockets. Maybe teams like the Pirates could stop investing time and money into two Indian kids who won a reality television show. Or maybe teams like the Mariners should stop spending $40 million on Carlos Silva. Or maybe the Royals should stop signing guys like Gil Meche, Jose Guillen, and Kyle Farnsworth. How about those poor, 'we have no money!' teams stop investing their money into crappy players. At least the Nationals are now respectable for willing to up their bid on Teixeira.
Want to know the beauty of this whole thing? The Yankees STILL have a lower pay roll then they did last season. Teixeira is making almost a million LESS than what Giambi earned in 2008.
The Yankees actually invest in players they feel will help their staff. They're not spending their money on the Kevin Brown's, Randy Johnson's, Jason Giambi's, Jaret Wright's, Carl Pavano's, Gary Sheffield's of the world. They're making investments that will pay off for the team.
It's a damn shame that people buy teams like the Marlins, put them in Florida where no one cares about baseball, and not even invest their money into the team.

World Series are won and bought.... case in point would be the Yankees, Red Sox and most notably the 2 appearances by the Florida Marlins. However, there is always a balancing act between homegrown talent, good free agent buys, good trades, team chemistry, desire, and luck.

The Red Sox won their 07 series based on the kids they brought up. A few others helped but without Papelbon , Pedroia and Youkilis the red sox lose.
The Yankees have a smaller payroll in 08 so far because they could afford to take on the Aberu's of the world. No other team can do that. The Red Sox couldn't do it when they wanted Bobby Abreu. They couldn't do it when they wanted A-Rod. They had a budget and stuck to it. The Yankees have NO budget.
Revenue sharing is helping some teams but other owners are just taking the money and not spending it. These teams should lose their teams.
Were you being sarcastic because this is exactly what the Yankees did. They bought these players from either out and out buying or taking their salaries off the hands of teams that couldn't afford them.
I love Yankee fans. They have every excuse under teh sun for their teams buying the world.lol

Because it's true. The Yankees were very, very, very stupid with their money in the past. At the time they acquired the likes of Kevin Brown and Randy Johnson, they were too old. The Jaret Wright's, Javier Vazquez's, and Jose Contreas' of the world were unproven.
The Yankees pretty much know what they'll get from Teixeira/Sabathia/Burnett.
Also, the 2004 Red Sox did not win their championships with huge amounts of homegrown talent.
Pedro Martinez...whoops not homegrown
Derek Lowe...whoops not homegrown
Orlando Cabrera...whoops not homegrown
Johnny Damon....whoops not homegrown
Manny Ramriez...whoops not homegrown
David Ortiz....whoops not homegrown
Keith Foulke...whoops not homegrown
Curt Schilling...whoops not homegrown
Kevin Millar...whoops not homegrown
Doug Mientkiewicz...whoops not homegrown
Red Sox Nation forgets that when they complain about the Yankees spending money. Manny and Ortiz were not cheap; Foulke was a tremendous part of you winning the Series; Lowe pitched great in the post season

Sorry but this ownership did not get Manny. The old group did and they did it how many years ago?
Half those guys were traded here.
In 07 they did it with drafting.
Ortiz is under paid. Pedro was at the time also especially compared to the people you pay now.Cabrera was traded here. So with doug. Millar was a FA and not over paid. Same with Ortiz. We got Pedro before the over paying of pitching. Foulke was under paid. Schilling took less to come here. Lowe was traded here.
None of these players but Manny was bought and that was by a different woner

It still doesn't matter. The bottom line is that you need to bring in free agents and trades, mixed in with young talent. It doesn't matter if they were over paid, underpaid... free agents like Manny Ramriez and David Ortiz are hired guns, period.
In 2007, you have a remarkable pitcher in Josh Beckett lead you to the World Series and guess what? He wasn't a homegrown talent. He was traded to Boston, along with Mike Lowell nonetheless. Boston also signed JD Drew to a 70 million dollar contract and got Dice-K for what will end up being worth $60 million after he cashes in on all of his incentives. Boston also paid 36 MILLION for JULIO LUGO!!!!!
And let us not forget that Boston offered $170 million dollars for Mark Teixeira. It's not like Red Sox Nation is innocent of paying huge sums for players that help them win World Series.

The sox have a budget. The only team that doesn'
t is NY and it is ruining baseball. The Red Sox wouldn't pay this money if they played in any other division. Even the Rays had to spend money this year.
Yankee fans are tools and they don't get reality as long as they win they are happy. Who cares if they put the sport out of business right NY?

The Red Sox offered Texiera money but that was their budget and they didn't sign 3 freaking players at half a billion dollars then expect money from the state to pay for their stadium.

If you can't tell the difference between 70 million and 170 million you have been drinking too much water in NY.

This guy is a moron haha. He might be credible if he was a Royals fan but The Red Sux try to buy all the free agents too. Did they not try to sign A-Rod and Teixiera? Speaking of bandwagon fans, what's a Boston fan living in Cali?
