In the days after the CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett signings It was pretty easy to say that under the current market turmoil the Yankees were flying way above their heads.

The signing of Mark Teixeira makes it even easier, but maybe we should all just face the facts:

The Yankees are not one bit afraid to spend money under any circumstances.

The reality of the situation, however, is that the Bankees (as some may call them) will actually be saving cash money heading into next season.

Even though the Yankees dolled out almost $430 million in contracts this month they will still be saving between (roughly) 10 and 20 million dollars (depending on whether Andy Pettitte signs) because of expiring contracts including those of Bobby Abreu, Jason Giambi, Ivan Rodriguez, and Carl Pavano.

Brian Cashman managed to keep the Steinbrenner brothers, Hank and Hal, in check while he swooped in during the final hour of the Teixeira sweepstakes. The fallout, to me, is eerily similar to the Arod Extravaganza;

--Just after talks broke down between the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers Cashman made a play for Arod without anyone noticing. The deal was kept so quiet and out of the media no one knew the deal happened until, well, it actually happened.--

While some teams and general managers cry "enough is enough" Joe Maddon, the manager of the 2008 AL Champion Tampa Bay Rays, told the Los Angeles Times "I know we're supposed to be devastated by this, but we're not; for us to lament it does no good."

That's the right way to attack this situation; there's no use crying over spilled milk.

While owners like Robert Nutting sit on their wallets and wait for The Rapture the Steinbrenner's of the World will put that money to good use, for example:

Signing the best free agent pitcher and the best free agent hitter to long-term deals, building a new stadium (albeit one that was mainly paid for by the city), and paying a luxury tax to all those owners who felt it was necessary to be frugal this holiday season.

Merry Christmas, you Baseball Grinches.
