It has come to my attention that the head NCAA offices in Indianapolis are looking into shady recruiting that's been going on in the football programs at Texas and LSU.. This all stems from the recent New York Times article documenting the recruitment of the #1 defensive tackle in the nation, Jamarcus McFarland out of Lufkin, Tx. The article was published on Dec. 25, 2008 by Thayer Evans who was following the process. In summary, the Oklahoma Sooners basically won the battle due to their lack of promises. Texas had offered everything from money to jobs for relatives. McFarland had also attended a recruiting visit in Austin where parties and drugs were readily available. As for the bunch down in Baton Rouge, when travelling there with his mother and grandmother, McFarland and other recruits were conveniently led into a room where the LSU Hostesses (ie: prostitutes) attempted to cement their committments with "special favors." Does this sound like Colorado and Gary Barnett's group? If so, these 2 "universities" have a serious train wreck headed their way.

I was at that party in Austin and Lance Armstrong assured me, none of those drugs would be traceable. Plus the food was Delicious!

My guess is he ruled out LSU after seeing the toothless prostitutes. (sorry - I tried but I couldn't resist)
On a more serious note, this will likely be traced to boosters working outside the program. I don't believe this kid is making everything up, nor do I believe the programs were aware of this. If you read the description listed above, it does sound like these ocurred outside the formal activities of a recruiting visit.
If these stories have any legs, regardless of the source, these programs willl be hit very hard.

Mcfarland mother wanted him to go to Joklahoma he wanted to go to Texas and she said that during the aggie game she and her son came on a official visit Mcfarland's mother said he went to a party just hours before the Aggies game, longhorn player's doing cocaine and said girls were there getting naked. well my question is this, where was his mother when this took place, If she was with him the whole time? then she says Texas gave his friend a no interest loan. Now why would they give his friend or family member money when they were trying to recruiting Mcfarland?
And if she did make these accusations i want her tried under false pretense because that is a huge NCAA infracation and those are huge acusations to be throwing at a college so she better watch her fat mouth. Sounds like OU can have this guy the Horn's don't need an errand boy. I wonder if she still puts out his close she wants him to wear for the day!

Easy there dude... admittedly I do not know the details of this, but...
1. I doubt he invited his mother to a party with other players/recruits (just guessing)
2. Giving loans and other goodies to relatives/firends/etc. is historically common as it is harder to trace (I didn't follow how it ended, but didn't the Bush family get a house that wasn't discovered until well after he graduated?)
3. You wouldn't get tried for an NCAA infraction, but you might under a slander suit. regardless of the likelyhood it is true, I doubt it would be in any universities interest to have their recruiting tactics reviewed with a fine tooth comb, which would be exasperated in a law suit. There are a lot of nickle and dime offenses in recruiting - as little as receiving a souvenir hat or t-shirt or lunch at McDonalds - no program wants extra eyes prowling around.
4. if OU doesn't want him, I am certain there are 118 other colleges that would take a #1 prospect.
5. If there is any validity to the accusations (which will be proven 1 way or another when the NCAA gets done) then I applaud the kid's ethics - I would have done the lines, done the prostitute, pocketed some money, ask for more please, and skated away quietly at that age.
It could be a serious problem. It is not necessarily a fault of the athletic departments, but NCAAF does hold the programs responsible for the activities of their boosters and supporters - if there is any validity to this, I suspect this is where these infractions are originating.

What's the matter pookie - can't handle a little critique? Can't back up your coments?
Whatever his ranking, I suspect there is still 119 FBS teams that would offer him a scholarship.
If his mother stopped him, that would be a case for momma's boy, not the reverse.

Show me the article and I'll beleive it. Guys this is a one time blogger with a total of three comments just trying to get a buzz. He's not worth telling how stupid this is. I've seen the recruiting proceess, my cousen Luke Sanders was a 4 star prospect and the top recruit at MLB in the nation about 5 years ago, and not once was he exposed to a "toothless hooker".

It is called Google. It isn't that tough to research. You will need to check and likely remove some characters inserted in the link after cutting and pasting, or you could google it yourself for less time than it took you to write your comment.

The toothless hooker was a joke.
Like I said
*If anything is true, it is occuring outside the Programs by the boosters/alumni.
*If there is any truth, NCAA will track it down. If not, it will be dismissed readily.
*I know nothing off these people except I fail to see a valid reason for them to lie.
*I know nothing of the activities of the alumni.
*I do not think anything here is new on the recruiting trail that hasn't gotten programs into trouble in the past.
*The recruiting experience of 1 athlete is not evidence that all athletes experience the same adherence to the laws. I doubt your friend encountered any rule violations, but many sanctions have been handed down over the last 5 years.
If it is true, the answer isn't to slam the kid because he got your favorite program into trouble. The answer is fo the program to crack down on the alumni/boosters.
