Total speculation, outside shot at happening.  I think it was Mondo Jay who put the thought in my head.

Wouldn't it just be poetic justice?  Goes to the arch rival of the team he kept a float despite mediocre personnel?  Especially since he didn't deserve to be fired, the Broncos were on the right track, which to be honest scared me as a Charger fan.

And what a fit it would be.  LDT and Mike Shannahan together?  It just wouldn't be fair to the rest of the league.  Give a future HOF running back, to a guy who turns 7th rond pick after 7th round pick into servicable Runners.  LDT would probably win 1-2 more Mvp's in Mike's system.

Mike made Brian Griese and Jake Plummer look like pro-bowlers, 2 guys who are back up caliber at best.  And he get's Philip Rivers as his QB?  Isn't that against the rules?  Competitive advantages are banned right?

Then Shanny gets the biggest quickest o-line in the league.  Hardwick, Dielman, McNiel, and Goff would be great in zone blocking.  They are all quick enough to pull it off.

Like I said, total speculation.  But can't we just think?

Sure you can think this. But after being someplace for 14 years, having a multimillion dollar mansion just finished last summer, it could also be possible that Mike sits out for at least a year to regroup.

Chargers might have a shot at winning something with a real coach!

Crap!! I should have kept my big mouth shut! It would be a little like Shanny going to Denver after Al Davis screwed him.....I fuggin hope not!

December 30, 2008  11:16 PM ET

If we're really lucky he goes to Kansas City and LJ runs for 2800 yards after he establishes 340 yards against Denver only to break his record by 7 yards and totaling 14 touchdowns.

Total speculation... But not happening. One can dream, though. Shanny and Bowlen are still way too close, and Bowlen won't screw him the way that Al Davis did. Every Bronco fan alive would hate Mike Shanahan forever.

I think a team like Dallas has a bigger shot. Turner made the playoffs, I dont think he is going to get canned for that.

Shanahan would be a great fit in Dallas; he knows how to run an offense with lots of great players on it.

Please Jerry, do something right!

I wouldn't rule that out, but I doubt that it would happen. After going through the Al Davis experience, I don't think that Shanny would work for another egomaniacal owner in Jerry Jones.

See this is what makes me wonder even more.

After getting drubbed 44-6 vs Philly, can JJ finally hire a coach and let the coach do things his way?

But I dont know if Jones is that desperate yet and I still think his ego is a bit too big to bring in a coach like Shanahan who would want some front office control.

Shanny takes a year off and waits for Singletary to fizzle in the Shizzle and swoops in for his dream job

I just want to point out what a shame it is that a coach with his pedigree can still get axed. A coach can only do so much.

Agreed, but it wasn't Shanahan the coach that was fired, make no mistake. Mike Shanahan the general manager was the one that got fired. At any rate, he had to go at some point. He simply couldn't stay here forever. I'll always be a fan of his, but I'm excited to see which direction the Broncos head in. It's a sad day for the Broncos and those of us that bleed Orange and Blue, though.

Love to see Mike go to the Chargers. That was one firing that wasnt expected and shouldnt have happened. Would be nice to see the Broncos pay for it. Lets hope it works out.

All of you "speculators" listen up, Shanahan would never go to San Diego! He could not do that to his "friend" Pat Bowlen... he is likely going outside the AFC West and preferably outside the conference to a place like Dallas or Detroit. Detroit would do "anything" to hire a coach/G.M. like Shanahan and Dallas just needs a quality coach to push them into the Superbowl!

January 1, 2009  01:06 PM ET

He is not going to San Diego. Not in his make up.

He will coach next year. That is in his make up.

He is not going to Dallas. That is not in his make up.

He could go to the Jets. They have some players and play a version of his system. They have two good backs.

He needs to find a DC wherever he goes.

He could take an OC job, as the Broncos owe him 20 million dollars, which they will pay. They are not Oakland.

He will not go to Oakland. Never again. Al Davis STILL owes him 2.1 million dollars.

I would like to see him go to Detroit. It is just not right to watch an NFL team play such inept football. Despite the woes of Denver, they never played poor football in Shanahan's tenure. He might be able to teach Martin Mayhew how to be a GM on the way.

I don't see him in Cleveland. I don't have a good reason, they just don't seem to match his philosophy. He would improve this team as a head coach.

I know Buffalo said they are keeping Jauron, but if I were them I would rethink that since Shanahan's firing. He could make Buffalo into a legitimate contender in the AFC east. The Buffalo fans would love him.

Jacksonville should look at him. I have nothing for or against JDR, but they have had a different OC every year he has been there. Shanahan could go to Jax, teach them how to play offense, maybe some input on draft selections in the first and third rounds. Or maybe, in a bold move, JDR becomes the DC, Shanahan HC and someone for his OC.

These are some ideas.

January 1, 2009  01:36 PM ET

No way that Shanahan comes into Jacksonville and throws out JDR.

Shanahan wont go to Detroit, he is getting paid tons of money, their is no reason he would want to go to a stinker of a team like the Lions.

I think Dallas should make a push for Mike. He had great success in SF 92-94 as an OC with a team full of stars on offense. If the Boys release T.O. to help chemistry and let Shanahan call the offense, I think it would be very good. I would love to see what Mike could do with Felix Jones and Marion Barber.

bobby turner is the coach that makes studs out of our running backs not Mike.
