1. First and Formost FIRE BRUCE ARIANS!!!!
The guy is a joke. Most obviously read play caller ever. Same 3 plays over and over. Any Goal line offense features 2 runs and a post route to Ward 99% of the time. BRING BACK MULARKEY!!!!
2 . An Offensive Line
The O-Line has taken MASSIVE hits thius year with the departure of Faneca. Stapelton has been the shining moment ont hat line producing good protection, but the rest of the line is garbage. False starts, failed blocks, bad coverage. No Wonder Ben is top 5 most sacked QB.
1st Round Draft Pick BETTER be a stud OL man....
3. Some Better Depth at WR.
Holmes and Ward are great, but we dont have the Tall receiver we need. We drafted Sweed to fill that place, but he has proven to have unsure hands and has not played much.... We need a calvin Johnson or Randy Moss.
4. A Sturdy Back.
Ever since Bettis retired, the steelers have been missing the power running game. Parker has filled in and done well and the emergence of Mwelde Moore is all good, but we dont have a bruiser for those tough yards.
This is my first blog....little thin I know. Just warming up

Good blog and valid thoughts.
Arians is horrible and the only reason his deficiences aren't magnified more is because a lot of the blame goes to the offensive line...unjustly. Arians puts so much pressure on Ben and the rest of the offense due to his inefficiency to put the ball in Ben's hands to win the game from the opening kickoff. He usually waits until late in the 4th quarter to give Ben a chance to win the game and in most cases Ben pulls it out.
I'm so sick of fans bad mouthing Ben when he throws a pick and yes I agree that he holds on to the ball to long sometimes, but think about the pressure he's placed under. I'm not talking the pressure he gets because the O-line can't give him 5-7 seconds to drop back and survey the field. How many times does Ben even get to look for his 3rd or 4th options?
Parker is done. Combine the broken leg with his frustrations and he's done. I would trade him and get a high draft pick for him. We have Medenhall next year and he's younger, bigger and stronger.
Steeler fans should realize the days of The Bus are over and so is the punishing run game we used to employ in the since Franco and the end of the Bus tour. The NFL has changed and so must the Steelers.
As for this years playoffs, if we don't employ the no-huddle and put the ball in Ben's hands at the start of the game, we will have little chance to move on to the AFC Championship game let alone the Super Bowl.

Rings you it the nail on the head big time. I also think Parker is done. And I hear it from everyone that Arians needs to go. I don't get to see much right now, because I am hanging out in Iraq, but I get emails from friends back in PA about the happenings. Today was the first day I got to get more info. I also think the O-Line needs a leader, with Fanaca gone they just never seemed to have a leader. I would also like to see them use a FB again. I think we are still set at TE. Me I would like O-Line, D-Line, and then some toss ups, maybe a CB. Well gotta run others are waiting for the computer.

Oh my gosh, it's time someone finally pointed out that ARIANS is a SHAM! I hate him. We were at the last reg. season game vs. Cleveland and everyone was saying that Arians needs to get axed which I totally agree with! Can you say Mularky?
We can't run the ball, ben drops back 35 times a game! That's not steeler football, that's Saints football!

I don't like Arians either. Unfortunately, his team is 12-4 and I doubt he's going anywhere anytime soon unless some fool hires him as a head coach somewhere. Roethlisberger has lost at least 3 years off his career due to no O-Line and boring, predictable play calling, resulting in too many sacks/hits. I still like their chances in the playoffs--No turnovers and they win the SB. No team is better than they are--The games they lost were egg lays, not beat downs by their opponents.
When Mendenall and Sepulveda return next year along with Simmons, the sky is the limit. Draft some O line and they'll be set. One thing is certain --their schedule will be easier next year.

OK lets take this one at a time.
1. Arian's is a decent playcaller. No offensive genius but he tried to do the same things that were successful in Pittsburg the last 10 years. When you can't run the ball effectively it limits your options. 4/5 of the offensive line is gone from last year (Faneca, Hartings, Simmons, Smith). You can't put it all on the OC. I think it's also Ben's stubbornness on not getting rid of the ball quicker. For his first 4 years he had one of the highest yards/att average in the league because although he didn't throw much when he did it was downfield. Things change and you have to adapt. I don't think Ben or the WRs have.
2. Goes without saying. Not replacing Faneca was a mistake. Starting 4 backups is worse. Draft two and sign one free agent and we'll be fine. When we draft OL high they are starters (M. Smith 38 pick 2000 ; K. Simmons 30 pick 2002) when we pick late their back ups ( W. Colon 131 pick ; M. Starks 75 pick) The highest we've drafted a OL in the last 5 years is the 3rd rd. Unless you get lucky these will always be back up quality.
3. Get a Moss or Johnson? Those are once a decade WRs. Why don't we go 0-16 and be assured of the first pick. That's the only way to get a Calvin Johndson. We drafted a big WR in Sweed. Give him some time. WRs are notoriously slow to get up to speed in the faster more physical NFL. Look at WRs picked between 2 - 45 in the 07 draft.
A Gonzales - Colts - 32 pick 07 ; 37 Rec 576 yrds 3 TD / 08 57 Rec 664 yrds 4 TD
T Ginn -Dolphins 7 Pick 07 ; 34 Rec 420 yrds 2 TD / 08 56 Rec 790 yrds 2 TD
Robert Meecham, Dwayne Jarrett, Sidney Rice all chosen top 45 pick have done nothing in 2 yrs. Roddy White and Matt Jones didn't break out until this, thier 4th year. Give him some time.
Our depth is pretty good in Ward, Holmes, Washington and Sweed.
4. We drafted a "sturdy" back named Mendenhal. How soon we forget.

I agree with all of you guys
We are seeing the plays are predictables in some games, the steelers stays for periods of time to score and thanks to the Defense the kept those games closed with late minutes rallies those games were won (Cowboys, Chargers, Ravens twice or Jags)
Regarding Sweed I think is good and needs time to grow up as a Pro
But with Mendenhal bad luck and hope can be the RB of the Future
I think there are better OC that help Ben but we cannot blame him for all the problems in the offense and sure need to address in the draft or in free market the OL because if not I don't think Ben last more than 9 or 10 years in the league
We don't forget with the Defense a team can win a SB as happened with the Ravens or with Steelers three year ago

Your blog is listed on the steelers page of http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/steelers/ . Congrats. I agree something needs done with the offense. What happened to 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Our defense is good, great even. Imagine how our TEAM would be if we could get back to the days of consistant 35+ minutes of posession per game.

in my opinion we need these in order:
1. a monster OT or center, someone who can really pass-block
2. a young DE or NT, admit it people our defensive line is getting old, still really good but getting old
3. a monster return specialist. i want sombody better than when we had randle el, i want a devin hester or deion sanders
