Ok, here's a rare serious post.
The AP is reporting that Arizona Diamondbacks CEO Jeff Moorad resigned last night with the *express* purpose of trying to acquire an ownership interest in the San Diego Padres.
Are you ready Cubs fans?
PANIC!!!
The only reason the Padres were so intent on dealing Jake Peavy was because of a serious cashflow problem. A new ownership stake could solve that problem, and fast.
Additionally, the Padres have already made significant cuts to their payroll. Keeping Peavy - who is signed for another few years on a very reasonable deal - is not at all out of the question if the Padres get a new owner.
Rest the rest about this Jake Peavy rumor...

As a Padres fan, I wish you were right in your fears of never getting Peavy after all. But at this point, I'm not sure Moorad has declared he would keep Jake off the block if he in fact becomes the new man in San Diego. Bascially, Peavy is still nearly unaffordable for the Padres and their 2009 pathetic payroll. I hope you're right, but I still have a bad feeling you'll be rejoicing when Jake flies out to Chicago sometime in July.
