In a series of 8 blogs I will wirte about 8 teams' paths to the playoffs and beyond. I will continue to update them through the playoffs. This is the first in the series of 8 and I will begin with the Carolina Panthers...

The season began with an ice pack over his left eye and a broken nose . A suspension and a fine. Ken Lucas and Steve Smith had plenty in their possession (respectively). As several have witnessed the video or have read the headlines... Smith released his anger on Lucas in a training camp altercation.

It was the top Carolina Panthers highlight since Jonathan Stewart and Jeff Otah were selected in the 2008 NFL Draft:

Pick 13. Jonathan Stewart - RB  ( Oregon )
Pick 19. Jeff Otah - OT  (Pitt)
Pick 67. Charles Godfrey - S  (Houston)
Pick 74. Dan Conner - LB  ( Penn State )
Pick 141. Gary Barnidge - TE  ( Wisconsin )
Pick 181. Nick Hayden - DT  ( Louisville )
Pick 221. Hilee Taylor - DE/ OLB  ( North Carolina )
Pick 241. Geoff Schwartz - OL  ( Oregon )
Pick 250. Bern adeau Mackenzy - OG  (Bentley)

But the season truly began when Jake Delhomme lined up in a shotgun formation with :02 seconds left in game regulation: Carolina 19 - San Diego 24. The play called was 74 Rocket with Jake Delhomme taking a high snap and stepping up into the pocket while throwing a bullet to TE Dante Rosario from 14 yards out of the end zone.

The camera jerked forward then focused back only to follow the pass right into Dante Rosario's hands: Carolina 24 - San Diego 24. The PAT followed soon after and the upset was complete.

This would become known as the Carolina Pa nther's greatest play on the season and their most important.

This would also become Rosario Dawson's greatest career game with 96 yards on 7 receptions and a TD. Oh... Rosario Dawson - The actress and former American Idol star who appeared on the screen of FOX's UPS Leaderboard as Dante Rosario. Completely irrelevant but I thought it might be necessary to add it.

While the altercation between Lucas and Smith was big news at that time, it's not worth mentioning now. The Panthers have long been over that. This season has been about the Panthers getting back to their old success. Offensive line creating holes for the backs to run through. Smith and Moose making catches as the two main receivers. Delhomme coming back from Tommy John surgery and being the leader that he is. The D having an edge to them. While the D has lost some of that edginess the last few weeks due to injuries, they should be back to normal with the week off to rest. Hopefully the O-line will continue to play well and not have the number of penalites they had early in the year.

Yes - True but as Panther fans we must not forget the silly things we have overcome even this season. I think this season has had multiple storylines attached to it and this is ceratainly one of them... They have gotten over a lot of things but things that I will never forget.
