Bradley signs with Cubs, Burrell with the Rays

More at www.metscitiblog.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Cubs have reached a 3 year deal for $30 million with Milton Bradley. That is quite a commitment from a National League team that is getting a player that has only broke 100 games in the field once. He only played about 20 games in the field last year and is a perennial injury threat. He also has a history of tantrums, fits, and other Manny-isms. I think that a team that led the NL in runs last year did not need to make this kind of a commitment. I understand that the Cubs could use some lineup balance for all of those right handed hitters, I just don't think they found the right one. As for Pat Burrell, he latched on with the Rays and this is a solid pickup for them. He kills lefties and the Rays were horrible against southpaws last year. He signs a very reasonable 2 year deal for $16 million. He also provides some veteran leadership as well. I can't help but wonder if the Phillies really think that Raul Ibanez is worth $30 million instead of Burrell for $16 million? I am not a fan of either at their ages and production. However, I like two years of Burrell a lot better that 3 of Ibanez.
