I wrote about this last year.  Remember all those fantastic upsets?  Or how could anyone forget the drubbing suffered by Ohio State again.  Now I find myself waiting for the Florida-Oklahoma game and wondering if the right teams are really involved.  So I have sat down and figured out a way for all the bowls to still get their money and for the fans and the colleges to get a real national champion.  I was holding out for millions but the phone call never came.

Ok so how can this possibly happen without a 20 game playoff you ask.  Good question.  Here is a better answer.  In college basketball we have the Big Dance and on the lesser extent we have the NIT.  Both tournaments generate a good amount of money.  Well why not do the same in college football?  There are 34 Bowl Games, 17 games between Dec. 20th through Dec. 30th and 17 games after.  The NIT of college football, for lack of a better name(I only said I was a genius I didn't say I was a good name maker upper), would run with 17 schools starting with the bottom end of the top 25.  This can't work the teams don't add up you say?  Well that is why you have three play in games to play the top three seeds.  After that well you know how a bracket plays out.

Now for the Big Dance.  If your ranked 1-14 your in.  The play in games are any schools in the MAC, WAC, or whatever other little division with Big Guns that you want.  The winners of those games play the big boys right off the bat.  Can you say HUGE RATINGS on the early "upsets".  The FINAL FOUR are the BCS Bowls with the BCS National Championship still alternating.  This allows the big bowls to still get their big money, only they will generate more money because they will be HUGE matchups with even HUGER (I love that word) implications.  For the colleges they make more with merchandising and tickets sales.  Big schools travel well.

And before you NAYSAYERS and BCS Lovers start throwing fits about a longer schedule, its only four extra games.  Now they are playing the same amount that they will be playing when they get promoted to the NFL.  Oh and what about tradition?  Well sometimes its time to start a new tradition.  16 Games, 1 Champion.

How about you just go and ask Div -1AA how they do it...seems to work year in and year out for them....4 weeks, 23 games played

Now if you wanted to please "bowl" fans just make the playoff rounds the bowl games...take teh highest revenue making bowls and label each match up a "bowl game" problem sovled

How about the fact that these are still kid's. I understand that some of them look grown, but kid's they are. The exception are the 28yr old players who could not make a run at baseball, did not make it, and came back to school. More games-more risk of being hurt. What about that. The plus two would take care of everyone, and there would be a clear NC. The mid schools would just need to get to the top five, and there in. Utah has a case this year. Plus two and there voted in, easyer to vote them in when they don't play one game and get a NC.

Just enough games for the big school's to get enough banged up player's for the small school's to compete. One more game and no NC for the Gator's, plus three would take care of everyone. The small school's who are bowl buster's would make it, large program's would keep up what they are doing, and every one is happy. We would still end up with the same top 4 con. playing in the NC game. Utah did look good enough to get there though.
