ESPN, while having the sports network market cornered, needs to do it's fair share of promotion and selling to exist. The TRUTH gets that. But this hairbrained scheme of switching broadcast crews for a night of NCCA/NBA telecasts leaves the TRUTH asking....****????
Mike Tirico has taken some abuse over the years for his off-the-air antics, and deservedly do, but that aside, is a solid and versatile broadcaster. So it was no surprise that he handled the college experience well. Dick Vitale? Not so much. I'm not sure what was worse? His insuffurable schtick, or ESPN's gleeful willingness to spread it around? Vitale is for most, an acquired taste. Some very loyal and knowledgeable college basketball fans lay palms at his feet.
But The TRUTH finds it rather boorish and annoying that Vitale cannot go through any conversation without lauding the praises of Mike Shechefski or ROBAWT MONTGOMERY KNIGHT. Also, his rather uninspiring coaching resume has been reviewed ad naseum. So, okay ESPN, we get it, coached the Univ. of Detroit then got shytcanned by the Pistons in 1980, now works as your resident village idiot from November to March!
It does require mentioning that Vitale is a tireless advocate for cancer research and uses his cult status for promoting the annual Jimmy V Classic and foundation work. For that he gets much respect from The TRUTH.
As for ESPN, please leave Dickie V where he should be. If I want him, I know where to find him. The TRUTH is convinced he lives in that crow's nest high above Camerson Indoor. It was like having Jennifer Anniston on 30 Rock, just ruins the whole experience.
