Today I realized that this group will probably be dead until this September except for signing day and some little stories that go on in college football. I hate this time of year, because college football is done and the NFL season is wrapping it up, leaving me and everyone else to watch sports like NBA or (gasp) NHL. Arena Football is taking the year off, so that means we will have to wait for college football for any football. So, what are we going to do until then? I have some ideas.
#1 Idea is to play all football games you can. From Tecmo Super Bowl to NCAAF 09, these games can help you stay in the feel of football season. I suggest at least one game a day. Doesn't matter who's playing, just play and then reflect on the game for a while. It gets addicting after a while, and the only thing that can replace it is ACTUAL FOOTBALL.
#2 Watch all the games from the last few seasons. At my house we have a bunch of old football games on VHS tapes (about three boxes full). Now with DVR, I can just turn the TV on and watch all the UGA games I saved AND fast forward through the commercials. Life is good....
#3 If you can't do the top 2, here's one that I wish I could do but it wouldn't work out. Create a league with your friends. You go to someone's house every Saturday and play football all day. You can make teams, keep up records, and even have a playoff (Playoffs? Don't Talk About Playoffs!). People would probably stop showing up, but make a jackpot for the winner of the playoff and people WILL come. It would be fun, but people would get hurt or mad and quit.
If all else fails, turn on your game console, pick some games, BUT don't play. Just watch the computer play itself. It would feel like a game (kinda) and NO COMMERCIALS! You could watch all the games that will be on next year. As you can tell, I'm desperate for some solutions. I've got seven months to find some method to deal with the loss of the 2008 college football season.
