Shortly after receiving a phone call from the Baseball Hall of Fame, Rickey Henderson filed a formal request to be inducted into the Hall of Fame alone, rather than alongside fellow inductees Jim Rice and Joe Gordon. When asked about his request, Henderson said "Rickey belongs in the Hall and he belongs on stage ALONE! Rickey was voted to the Hall of Fame on the very first ballot and deserves a special place in the Hall. Rice has waited 15 years, he can wait one more. Gordon's dead, so he won't know any better. Rickey's never heard of him anyway!"
When asked what hat he would like to see on his Hall of Fame plaque, Henderson replied "Rickey's gonna have a big RH on his hat. The hat shows who you played for, and Rickey never played for nobody but Rickey!"
The Baseball Hall of Fame refused comment on the status of Henderson's request.
