If you're like me, a die hard NFL fan who's team is out of the play-offs. You are probably looking at what next season will bring, which I'm doing. I have put together some early cantidates for next season's awards.
Mvp
My pick- Of course, Philip Rivers
Why not? He is my pick 2 years in a row. The Chargers were banged up from week 1 to week 19. They were never at full capacity.
Rivers would have been more of a contender this year if it weren't for the defense's tendency to give up last minute game winning drives, there were FOUR this year. By all right Rivers and the Chargers should've been sitting pretty with a first round bye at 12-4.
Rivers production will likely increase even more next season. Rivers never really had a #2 WR, he got spotty play from Chris Chambers all season long due to an ankle injury and when he finally had a solid #2 in Malcolm Floyd he got injured. Next season he should have a solid and healthy group of WRs in Vincent Jackson, Malcolm Floyd, and Chris Chambers to go along with the #1 TE in the league Antonio Gates.
And injuries along the O-line prevented Rivers from getting consistent protection. Next season Marcus McNeil and Nick Hardwick will be fully healthy and ready to go, so Rivers will get great protection next season.
And the Run game really held the offense back, they did not provide a good compliment to Rivers and the passing game. LDT will be taking on a reduced load, in hopes to keep him fresh and healthy late in the season. Which means bigger production from the run game, while moreAttempts for Rivers.
Stat prediction:
Yards- 4250
TD's-30
INT's- 7
Comp%- 66%
Team record- 13-3
Defensive Player of the year
My Pick- Shawne Merrimen
How much do you respect this guy's ability now? It is clear he is the Chargers D. It is night and daywhen he isn't playing.
When he isn't on the field, it effects everyone. Did anyone notice how the turn-overs, Interceptions, and sack stats all went down? Merrimen not playing was the cause, he makes everything easier on people just with his presence.
He got the surgery, he should be 100% next season and you know he is just itching to knock someone out and make this D as good as we all know it can be.
Stat prediction
Sacks- 16
Tackles- 90
FF- 8
INT's-1
Offensive player of the year
My Pick- Roddy White
He is pretty much the only legitimate threat on his team. This guy can do it all; he can get deep, He can make a short pass into a long game, he pulls down amazing catches as often as Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson, and his hands long medium or short are just amazing.
He will be targeted even more than he was this year, with Matt Ryan as his QB. As Matt learns to trust White the way Schaub trusts Johnson, Romo trusts Witten, Brady trusts Moss, Manning trusts Wayne, or Warner trust Fitzgeral, White will put up ridiculous numbers.
Stat Predictions:
Receptions- 100
Yards- 1650
TD's- 17
Offensive rookie of the year
My Pick- Michael Oher
Picking the ROY is very difficult, but Oher to me is a safe pick.
He will improve any line he plays on. He will absolutely lock down the left side of the line in the run and pass game.
Defensive Rookie of the year
My Pick- Rey Mauluga
Difficult to pick, but like Oher, Rey is a fairly safe pick.
He will instantly add intensity and physicality to any D, and will improve the run and pass D of any team.

Your predictions, of course, are garbage.
Here???s some of my own:
Most overrated: Phillip Rivers
Most likely to inject roids: Shawne Merrimen
Do you follow football? Really? I need an answer.

Anti-Chargers propoganda coming from an idiot who's name is Jay Cutlers Right arm.
Please I don't go around slinging random insults around, why should I be the victim of an uneducated sports fan acting like a D0uche?

I would be much nicer to an Idiot like you if he at least tried to explain his idiocy. You didn't however.
How the **** is Rivers Overrated? He was tied for the league lead in TD passes, and was the highest rated QB, and DIDN'T MAKE THE PRO-BOWL. If anything he's underrated.
Jay Cutler on the other hand, was second in the league in Picks, 16th in QB rating, and engineered the greates collapse in NFL history that got a HOF caliber coach canned. And how is he rewarded? With a pro-bowl...... Can you say..... OVERRATED????

O-lineman should be considered more often. I personally think Ryan Clady was just as good as Matt Ryan. I'm just not sold on Andre Smith, I see him being like Leonard Davis was early on in his career.
Shady only is he goes to San Diego, I have my fingers crossed.

So why didn't Ryan Clady make your 09 pro bowl picks? You shouldn???t start contradicting yourself. When in doubt, through a charger in there.

Really? If it was a waste of time why come back? Please, stop coming here with your petty insults and total uneducation on the subject.
I have no problem when a Bronco fan comes onto one of my blogs and gives in put, as long as they don't act like an @$s (like you). You clearly no nothing AT ALL about the NFL, or else you would be embarrassed about how ignorant you look right now.

How is that contradicting my self? I don't feel Clady will be able to be dominant in the new blocking scheme McDaniels will be bringing in.

Also, Antonio Cromartie was exposed this year. But don't let facts get in the way of your fantasy. I can???t wait for the upcoming 2010 all charger pro bowl. Just another game they can choke away.

He wasn't exposed this year. No one can cover a person for 6-7 seconds like he was asked to do. The Chargers had 0 pass rush, which effect coverage, Cro is a ball hawk plain and simple.
All Charger? I only have 8, the Chargers have sent 13 in the past. Try again Forrest Gump.

Ok let me explain this to you.
The Broncos exclusively ran a zone blocking scheme. Josh McDaniels comes from more of a man blocking scheme. New blocking schemes will create more confusion then there was, which will lead to more sacks being given up and more missed assignments in run blocking.
