Like the rest of Broncos Country, although some view Shanahan's firing as a long time coming, I was downright shocked that it actually happened.  After the most monumental collapse in NFL history, it was obvious that changes needed to be made.  But to fire the head coach of 14 years and weed out the rest of the offensive personnel that saw THE most productive offensive year since the glory years of '98 and '99 is a little absurd.

I understand why Shanahan got fired, but it makes me sick to my stomach everytime I think about it.  I am trying to move on and look to the future, and it looks bright, but it's at the end of a very long tunnel.  I like the hiring of Josh McDaniels and Mike Nolan.  What I don't like is the fact that every offensive assistant that brought us such success is being told to take a hike.  Cutler had developed close relationships with the personnel, and at such a critical time of his career our new cocky young coach is taking them away.

The change did not need to come on offense.  Jay Cutler broke records, and did an astounding job at the quarterback position considering how many times he needed to pass the ball due to the long string of injuries at running back.  Our offensive line?  Forget about it.  A quarterback that had to pass that much would usually hit the turf quite a bit, but instead he was barely touched all year.  Our receivers are continuing to grow and prove that they are becoming the premier duo in the NFL.  Our running game needs work only because our backs are always getting injured.  Now we will have a plethora of backs to choose from during training camp before trimming the roster.

The offense was fine.  What killed us is our defense.  Again.  Obviously Shanahan does not have personnel knowledge in this area, and I think he needed to give up his position of vice president of operations, simply because he is just not skilled defensively.  So we need to rebuild the defense.  Our corners are fine, and our linebackers are average, but our safeties and linemen need to be turned over.  And we need a coordinator that will make that happen.

But to rebuild the entire coaching staff is a little excessive, and that means an ENTIRE SEASON of getting used to the new schemes.  So basically, 2008 became a wash, and 2009 is going to be one as well.  I really don't even think we have a shot at making the playoffs next season simply because every player is going to be confused, and I wouldn't be surprised if Jay Cutler becomes very vocal about the situation.

So here we go Broncos fans.  Another year without the playoffs, another year of rebuilding our team.  Maybe we shouldn't have been so quick to judge Shanahan.

Not so, I think Shanahan has done a fine job at Denver but, has become complacent and does not believe in motivating his team. He is a coach and believes that the players make enough money so they don't need motivation, they are big boys. This team needs a new direction and a new coaching perspective. I would treat these players with respect but be very firm and let them know they must perform or they are gone. Shanahan has also made some stupid people changes like: Atwater, Pryce, Smith, Lynch, Liam, Portis, and etc. I love the Broncos but, they need to get their head in the game, and practice hard so they won't get hurt and will be conditioned. Hey, these players are paid millions to be on TV and play, I want my million dollars worth and players like Champ disappointed me this year. If he does this next year I would ax him from the program.

Looks like positive change to me. Shanny was the Broncos and will always be the coach that got it done back to back...first ever for Denver. None the less there isn't another coach in the league that could stay with the record he's had since. Complaining about running back injuries this year is kind of like San Diego blaming their 8-8 season on a bad ref call in week 2. Mike had plenty of opportunity for a decade and if it's not cash then where do you place the blame. Heaven knows we've spent the coin.

Mc Daniels and crew will have a cohesive plan and the players will either get serious or get out. If they can't fit in; then I agree it will be a long season. However it won't be a coaching problem...I honestly believe that problem has been solved.

Shanny will always be the guy who got it done first; but his record since would not have been tolerated in any organization that cares about winning. Saying he should stay because of running back injuries is like saying that the Chargers were only 8-8 because of a blown call in week 2. What about the other 15 games. Too many average years Mike.

Mc Daniels will have a program established by Spring and the players will either get behind it or get out. If they go; then yes it will be a long campaign but it won't be a coaching problem. We have a lot of good talent and if everyone gets their head straight an average defense will keep us in the game. Imagine what even 1 more win would have meant this year. We couldn't have stopped marbles from rolling up hill this season...how hard is it to move up from 29th? We gave up more points than the Lions for crying out loud!!! Our money players better get inspired and lead; that's what they are on the roster for. And while I'm at it Prater should be coaching kids soccer at the YWCA.

I guess fortunately for me this season, I'll be in Boling Green Kentucky for school. So...I won't get to see any of the games I'm sure. Except for the prime time games, assuming they show football in KY. But...I should probably count that a blessing for this season.
