I know this is a sports site.

Trust me. I have been here long enough to know this.

But on this historic day I wanted to post a blog congratulating the new Preisdent of the United States.

Why?

Because its ground breaking.

And in our society that means something.

Especially with our shameful history.

Obama isnt perfect.

But thats the great thing about America.

An imperfect man can get elected to the most important position that could be held.

I had reservations about him as I pointed out to a couple female friends during the election season.

He had ties to a man convicted of fraud.

His preacher was a man of questionable character for damning the US.

To the uninformed his middle name strikes fear.

Even with some reservations I preferred him over John McCain or a "3rd term for Bush."

But then I saw him speak in front of a crowd.

He showed me is articulate and passionate. Just like another great speaker.

His self composure is also an attribute that will help him as president.

And hey it cant hurt to have a president that is a baller.

Will his election change my life?

 I dont know.

But I do know this.

I can now look into the eyes of my 9 year old son and HONESTLY tell him he can be anything he sets his mind to. And maybe now when people look at young interracial or black children they will think of them growing up to be more than NBA or NFL athlete's or gangbangers.

Maybe that will change.

I can hope.

Because like MLK said, hope is all we truly have.

Obama had hope.

And look where that hope got him.

Great blog DJ! Everything you wrote is so true.

This goes far beyond politics.

Great blog, man. Today is a day for hope and dreams. No matter what they are, if you work and persevere they can come true.

But only IF people let go of the past, can that dream become a reality.
A lot can go wrong in 4 years, gang. Keep THAT in mind, these first 100 days of the Obama presidency. Just keeping this "real", is all.
After all, I live in a state (Virginia) that put a black man in the governor's mansion. We never thought THAT would happen, either.

I hope he does good, but I have a bad feeling, and not just because I'm a McCain supporter.
