A rumor came out the other day that the Dallas Cowboys secretly covet LB Ray Lewis and would be willing to lock him up to a three year, $28M-$30M deal, with $25M of it being guaranteed. According to team owner Jerry Jones, Lewis would be a strong presence in the locker room which would help re-build team chemistry.
First off, let’s hope Lewis thinks with his head (and not his wallet).
Lewis, a sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famer, should remain a Raven until the day he retires.
I don’t think Baltimore Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome would commit that kind of money to a 35-year old player. But I do suggest Newsome would offer some key incentives to lure Lewis to stay.
Secondly, the only way you’ll have team chemistry once again in Dallas is through addition by subtraction—releasing the cancer known as Terrell Owens.
The pairing of Lewis and Owens nearly happened before. In 2004, the Niners traded the troubled receiver to the Baltimore Ravens, but the deal was vetoed after T.O. cried to the NFL league office.
And why was there anything to cry over?
Because Owens’ agent somehow missed the deadline to fill out the free agency papers, so he was technically still under contract with San Francisco. So the Baltimore deal was ripped up and he got his wish to go to Philadelphia.
Well that love affair lasted one season until he completely imploded, created a personal rift with McNabb, and brought the entire ‘05 Eagles’ team down with his selfish antics.
So he went to Dallas in ‘06.
He fit right in with Jerry Jones’ belief that the Cowboys can rehabilitate anyone.
And aside from a few personality conflicts between Owens and Parcells - and I’m sure the Tuna was none too happy about the acquisition, once Romo took over after week 7 of the 2006 season, he was a happy camper.
And that transferred over until this year when he took his me-first attitude to a new level. In the past, whenever the Cowboys lost, he always used the “when the ball is thrown to me, good things happen” argument.
And against the likes of San Francisco, the team they played directly after he made those comments again, he put up over 200 yards and people thought he was right.
But shortly after the week 14 Steelers loss, a new kind of complaining began; he called out Romo and said that he looks to Witten too often. Perhaps, he hasn’t taken note of how difficult it is for defenses to match-up against the All-Pro TE.
And after the Cowboys were annihilated by the Eagles, 44-6, in week 17, T.O. even took some shots at offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.
So if Jones thinks that bringing in Lewis without removing Owens would solve team chemistry, he might need to have his head checked out. No one has ever been able to control Owens.
That’s why T.O., easily one of the top five receivers to ever play in the NFL, has been shipped out of two cities already and is close to getting the pink slip in the third.
Lewis would certainly be an asset to an already stout Dallas’ D, but even the most talented team in the league can’t overcome a personality like Owens. I believe that was proven this year by none other than Dallas.
Sure there were other issues affecting the team (Romo’s injury), but they still had a shot for the playoffs when he (Romo) returned. And both the Eagles and Cardinals proved that all you need to do is get in.
So stick in Baltimore, Ray.
Jones is desperate to sell tickets and luxury boxes for the new stadium this year and wants his fans to believe that this is a Super Bowl team, but until T.O. is shipped to the Canadian Football League, there will be no Super Bowl in Big D.
There will only be internal bickering and fighting that’s bad for football, but great for ratings on HBO’s award winning “Hard Knocks” series.

I think if he still has any game left Baltimore would be crazy to let him leave, but should he land in Dallas that would be a huge bonus. I honestly think that Tony Romo deserves some of the blame for TO problems, Patrick Crayton and Roy Williams also complained to Garrett about the Romo Witten love affair, and Garrett himself isn't all that popular right now, Owens is just the most vocal about issues, theres a lot going on down there thats for sure.

Ray lewis is a worse person than M Vick or maybe you think it's ok to help kill someone compared to a dog fight. He shouldn't be allowed to play

"He fit right in with Jerry Jones??? belief that the Cowboys can rehabilitate anyone."....Rehabilitating people is commendable, but sometimes in cases like these with the 'Boys, it can be selfish, in that Jones, in his infinite wisdom, thinks his money can buy and rehab anyone, and in HIS MIND (he says that a lot), would bring more SB's to the Cowboys.
The person being rehab'd has to WANT it. You cannot force it upon them. Jones himself should be rehab'd, but unfortunately, as I said, he'd have to want to, and that won't happen.
"So if Jones thinks that bringing in Lewis without removing Owens would solve team chemistry, he might need to have his head checked out"....He needs his head checked out regardless. Jones is as much a problem as Owens, and this coming from a Cowboy fan of 40 plus years.
"No one has ever been able to control Owens."... If Owens was unemployed for a year or so, or at least suspended, and IF no other team signed him, he might would eventually stop and look at himself, with the operative word being "might". But, there's always going to be someone desperate enough to take him on. But, Thugman was out of football for a year and he didn't learn anything, so I doubt Owens would either.
"Jones is desperate to sell tickets and luxury boxes for the new stadium this year and wants his fans to believe that this is a Super Bowl team, but until T.O. is shipped to the Canadian Football League, there will be no Super Bowl in Big D".....I wholeheartedly agree, but Owens is only a part of the problem. Jones is the bigger part. Look for the new stadium to be named The Jerry Jones Stadium. He will buy the naming rights himself, and erect a statue of himself out front , where his "fans" can adore him, which, if I'm not mistaken, would be his immediate family.
With that being said, Ray Lewis, you'd be a fool to come down here. I don't think there's enough money in the world worth being caught up in all this drama. The money you get from whoever, should be sufficient to last you the rest of your life, and your descendants as well. Besides, when you retire, go knock Keyshawn from his stool, and take his job.
Whether or not the past thing with the murder deal is true or not, I won't judge you. I have watched you play however, and that's good enough for me. Stay with the Ravens. and don't get smeared with this crap down here. I have a feeling it's going to be a very long road back to any kind of respectability for my team. Jerry "even bad publicity is good for the team" Jones has made sure of that.

How does every conversation about the Cowboys always seem to come back to gettign rid of T.O. Skippy Smithy said it best, Lewis to Dallas would be a huge lift to the defense which is definitely needed. The comment about Romo was also correct, T.O. was not the onyl person to complain about Romo passing to Witten (he just happen to be the most popular one). It is evident that the Boys offense suffered late in the year and it was not b/c of T.O. Romo's game went downhill after Felix Jones was injred and I think in part b/c the running game suffered and garrett started calling plays that were more predictable and the O-line couldn't hold their assignments. One player won't make them a winning team but he can definitely make others work as hard as he does. it is amaizing how much T.O. was being praised during the summer (HBO HardKnocks) for his mentoring of young receivers but when he spoke out about the problems - he turned into a lockerroom cancer. i think people are still on T.O. for the problems in Philly and can't let that go. In a sense, T.O. paid is his debt to society by being suspended by the league before signing with Dallas. Get over the biased BS - he is not a a team cancer, poison pill or any other negative adjective used to describe him. No one can convince another to do any thing that he doens't want to do (I have never heard of T.O. threatening anyone's life if they didn't agree with him) so any player speaking out about the problems of Dallas are stating their own mind - it is just easier to throw rocks at T.O. or make him the scapegoat b/c the media will welcome their comments and say they were inspired by T.O.

Lewis would be a big help, (for a short time) but, he wasn't here in 07. We didn't need him then did we? Why do we now? Locker room chemistry? 25-30 million for locker room chemistry? No, the guys we already have should be doing that. They are professionals...it's part of their job. They don't have to like each other, but they can be professional about what they do and should all be on the same page.......the goal is the playoffs, right? They make millions of dollars to win games and make the playoffs, right?
Insofar as Felix Jones being a reason Romo's game suffered, then pray tell, where was Felix Jones in 07? In college. You cannot make me believe that Felix Jones's injury hurt Tony Romo's game. The whole team got an instant case of stupidity, (and in some cases, celebrity and vacations) and it started from the top. Why did Jerry Jones go and get Roy Williams, when, at the time, we needed secondary help? That's the top..........The bottom is the play of the players themselves, and the coaches are in between.
The main reason for the offense being out of sync is because Tony Sparano helped Garrett with the play calling last year. Sparano, as you seen with the Dolphins, is an aggressive type coach. Garrett, as is Phillips, isn't as aggressive , and it showed in the games. In fact, the play calling was timid. And repetitious. It don't take a rocket scientist to figure out what they were doing and going to do. In my opinion, Sparano should have been the offensive coordinator at least, if not the head coach. But, that is done and over with now.
I'll tell you why every conversation about the 'Boys come back to Owens. His reputation, for one thing. Another thing is Jerry's fascination about having " even negative publicity is good for the Cowboys". JJ loves the attention, plain and simple. Why did he sign Thugman? Or Tank Johnson?
Owens is a damn good player for his age, but he needs some corralling at times, and I doubt anyone could do that. Parcells couldn't. I know Phillips and Garret can't if Parcells couldn't. But, it all starts at the top. JJ is fascinated with Owens and the attention he brings. And as such, we "are what we are". Until that mindset is changed, this team might make 7-9 or 5-11 next season.
We could argue these points until we're both blue in the face, but this is strictly my opinion. I respect anyone else's as well. everyone has their opinion of course. But, this is the way I look at it.
