Sitting in my hotel room, packing everything, and headed home in a bit.  And I'm still not a grandfather.  I'm betting she has the child while we are driving back. 

Last night I played my first poker in over a week.  I decided to put the blog on vacation as well as my poker game, but finally broke down with my son and my wife last night.  We had a blast, and since the small tournament was paying three places, it was fun to see my wife, my son, and myself all three take the money.  The rest of the house was none too pleased to see us take it all, but honestly....they weren't very good.  People calling all ins with A-2, only to be beat by A-3.  Seriously, A-2 loses to EVERYTHING. 

The highlight of the evening for me reinforced our discussions on A-K from last week.  My son has raised early on, and ended up all in with a guy with my son holding A-K, and the other guy holding Q-Q.  Classic race, which my son ended up winning.  Later on, with my wife in the small blind, she shoved all in.....and the big blind...my son.....showed A-K and said "You can't win every race".  The wife flipped over 10-10.  The dealer, doing what he shouldn't do, put out the flop anyway, and sure enough, there was a third 10. 

Now that could have ended my son's night if he had played by the standard "call every all in with A-K".  Instead he realized that A-K was a pushing hand, and wasn't always a calling hand.

One more note on my son:  He got sucked out on hard towards the end, with 6 players left, and it left him with one single 1000 chip.  The blinds were 1000/2000.  He put the 1000 chip in on the next hand, with 3 callers and a folded small blind.  His 6-6 turned into trip 6's, and he then had 5000.  On the next hand, he had 7-8 of clubs, so he shoved the 5000 in with two callers.  A flush later he had 15,000 chips.....and played that into third place and the money.  Just proving the old adage "A chip and a chair" is not just a cute saying.

Anyway, we're on the road here in a second with an overnight in Las Vegas.  Lets see if we can take last night's winnings and do something with them tonight.
