Awards/Award sleepers

AL Mvp-Carlos Quentin

He would have won it easily last year if it weren't for his injury.  I can see him hitting 40-45 HR with 125-135 RBI easily.  He is just a great player.

NL Mvp- Joey Votto

He is ready to burst on to the scene.  He has a ton of power and is capable of hitting 300.  He had a great rookie season last year, and he's going to be a guy who will receive a lot of attention this season.

AL Cy Young- Roy Halladay

This guy is just a machine, he is probably the most dominant pitcher in the league right now.  And he does this with no run support which makes it even more amazing.  He received a decision 31 out of his 34 games, that is amazing.

NL Cy Young- Johan Santana

It's scary but he might actually have a Bull-Pen that can holda lead!  He had an ERA of 2.53 last season, and he could easiy match that this year and pick up 20+ wins with his dominance.

AL ROY- Nick Adenhart

He is a very talented pitcher with a great fastball.  I can see him bursting on to the scene this year and taking the AL ROY.

NL ROY- Cameron Maybin

He is a 5 tool threat.  He has HR Power and ability to steal bases, he could be a 20-20 guy in his first year.

AL Mvp sleepers:

Chris Davis- He showed tremendous power in his rookie season, don't be surprised if he breaks out with 40+ HR.

Nick Markakis- He is as good as they get in terms of overall ability.  If would not be shocked if he puts up Mvp type numbers.

Mike NaPoli- Sorry, had to put him in the mix.  The Angels may be moving him to DH or possibly 1st to preserve his knees.  Not many players have as much power as NaPoli, he hit 20 HR in just 78 games.  He hit a HR every 11.4 at bats, to put that in perspective Ryan Howard hit one every 12.7, Pujols hit one every 14.2, A-Rod hit one every 14.6.  Like I said, his power makes him a very interesting pick.

NL Mvp Sleepers:

Troy Tulowitzki- He was banged up all season long last season.  He's coming in healthy and ready to return to his 07 form.  He is very talented and will make some noise.

Hunter Pence- We all saw what he's capable of in his rookie season.  He had a down year in terms of average, but he did hit 25 HR.  If he can get his average to where it could be, we will be talking about him in Mvp discussions.

Brian McCann- He has a Mike Piazza type bat, and is better in the field than Mike.  He has 25-30 HR power, and could get a to of RBI.

AL Cy Young Sleepers:

Francisco Liriano- He showed flashes of the dominant pitcher he was in his rookie season last year.  I think he continues his progression and throws his name back in the ring as a top young pitcher in the league.

Justin Verlander- He had an off year and people forgot about him.  I see him coming back with a vengance, he is still one of the most talented pitchers in the league, you can expect good things this season.

Ervin Santana- Why not?  He can be flat out dominant at times.  He was 4th in the league in K's last season, won 16 games, and had an ERA of 3.49.  He will continue to improve and show he can be an Ace in this league.

NL Cy Young sleepers:

Chad Billingsley- He was dominant last season striking out over 9 per 9 innings and had an ERA of 3.14.  What's even more amazing is he won 16 games with pretty much 0 run support (well before Manny).  If the Dodgers offense continues to improve, he is a possible 20 game winner.

Jair Jurrjens- He is a talented player who is going to be a force this season.  He'll be great this season.

Roy Oswalt- Why is no one talking about this guy?  Did he fall of the face of the earth?  He is the most consistent pitcher in the league, and yet no one is throwing his name out there for Cy Young consideration, don't worry Roy I will.  Roy Oswalt will be discussed and is likely to take the trophy.

 World Series:

Angels over Mets in 5

WS Mvp-  Mike NaPoli

Didn't Maybin lose his "rookie" eligibility last year?

The Angels lost Teixeira and K-Rod, couldn't get past Boston last year, and haven't made any key acquisitions. What makes you think they are World Series-bound this year?

Quentin isn't going to sneak up on anybody this year, and pitchers have a better idea of how to work him. If the ChiSox trade Dye then Quentin is screwed, because Swisher and Dye provided protection in the lineup for him.

Joey Votto? The Reds with 86 wins? You're smoking crack.

I didn't attempt to do the math to any extent but I find your records a little ridiculous (if not impossible) considering how you only have 5 teams with a losing record.

Hey, I didn't know the NL West only had 4 teams. Oh, they omitted the Padres. Can't blame them there. By the way, I did do the math.

American League: 1215 wins, 1053 losses
National league: 1243 wins, 1187 loses(minus the Padres)

Not exactly a scientific poll considering the wins and losses are supposed to be exactly the same.

Ha, didn't even notice that. Apparently the padres are gonna lose 218 games in a 162 games season. And they moved to the AL.

QUOTE(#4):

Hey, did anyone notice the NY Yankee lineup and their pitching rotation ? Do you really think the Angels and let alone the Mets will beat them? Don't think so...... A line-up of Damon, Jeter, ARod, Tex, Jorge, Matsui, Nady, Cano, Cabrera and pitching rotation of CC, AJ, Chien-Ming, Joba and Phil Hughes (or Aceves, Coke or maybe Kennedy) mean anything to you? I mean you have all teams winning max of 98 games (Rays).... where would that position the Yankees who I strongly believe with that outrageous team they have will win at least 100 games like they did in the late 90's? Hello.....?

Gimme a break. They always put the best team on paper year after year after year, spending whatever it takes. Just because they have the best team on paper doesn't mean they will win it all. Outside of Tex, their defense has more holes than a good piece of swiss cheese. That means their pitching will continue to suffer because innings will be extended.

Once again, I get to laugh at the most overpaid, overrated team in baseball.

Had to get that off my chest. With that being said, O's at 85-77? They only have one established starting pitcher (Guthrie) who is their ace, but maybe a 2nd or 3rd starter on a decent rotation.

I love my O's, but it isn't their time, yet.

January 26, 2009  01:58 PM ET

how do you not have hamels as at least a sleeper for cy young

January 26, 2009  02:05 PM ET

Though you totally gave the Angel's the benefit of the doubt, I'm thinkin' they're not winning 100 games this year. Maybe 105, but not 100... Too unrealistic.

Adenhard for ROY!!!

The monkey lives on!

Your MVP picks are verging on the absurd.

That's what they said about the Rays making the playoffs too!

Dude, I may be the biggest Orioles homer here. With that said, the Orioles are lucky if they win 70 games. Hell, they are lucky if they dont lose 100.

By the way, this "blog" was way too homer.

I find it hard to believe that Quentin will duplicate, no mention of Sabathia in CY young conversation, bad math. Zen Master, it means something that you got so many comments, but this is flawed, considerably. If A-Rod bats ahead of Tex, he'll win MVP.

Good Blog, but I think the Brewers are going to be better than just a .500 team.
