With Super Bowl XLIII a mere five days away, I figured I should make my prediction.
The Cardinals, after beating Atlanta, Carolina, and Philadelphia, are ready to win it all on America's biggest stage.
The Steeler's defense is number 1 in the world, but can they cover Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin? No. If Asante Samuel can't cover Fitzgerald one on one, who can? They're only chance is if they get to Warner, but he is no Joe Flacco. I see Warner staring down the Steeler's defense and passing to Fitzgerald and Boldin with ease. Maybe an interception, but I can't see that happening unless one of those ridiculous deflections occur, gifting a turnover to the Steelers.
It comes down to the fact that you cannot double cover both Fitz and Boldin without giving up major concessions to the Cardinals' run game and Steve Breaston, their 3rd receiver.
Anquan Boldin cannot stir the pot any more in the Cardinals' locker room. If he does, the Cardinals could be doomed to failure.
On the other side of the football, the Cardinals defense has played well in the postseason, forcing Jake Delhomme to commit 6 turnovers and pressuring Donovan McNabb to commit costly mistakes. Big Ben, however, has other ideas. After outmaneuvering the Baltimore Ravens #2 defense, he will have no problem dealing with the Cardinals. Big Ben will have a big game.
Neither running game will gather much steam. If the Cardinals can stop Westbrook, and the Williams and Stewart tandem, why wouldn't they be able to stop Willie Parker?
This game will be a shootout.
Warner against Roethlisberger.
Fitzgerald and Boldin VS. Ward (who will play), and Holmes.
Ward will start, but will not be effective throughout the entire game.
***WARNING*** Ravens fan bias.
For the record, even if the Ravens had beaten the Steelers, the Cardinals still would have been my prediction. No one can cover Fitz. No one.
