An open letter to those who work on and for Fannation:
You purport to be running an equitable sports site here, but recent events have suggested otherwise.
How is it that you allow
- all-but-nude avatars
- mockery and insults of every kind
- cheating
- duplicate accounts
- staff writers who can't string coherent sentences together
and countless other types of nonsense, but you can't seem to fix the things that need fixing?
A thong-covered booty is self-expression, but the word "b'itch" is too much for us to handle? Is that really the message you want to send?
You allow certain users to cheat as they see fit while periodically and somewhat randomly nailing others for lesser offenses? Are you merely fighting the fights you can win?
You delete a user's account because he posts links to another sports site? Do I need to check over my shoulder every time I type ESPN in a throwdown?
The arbitrary censorship and halfassed monitoring are embarrassing. And this site is slowly ruining itself.
Take a good look. Many quality users are going or gone. I don't think that's what you're going for. I'm hoping that maybe someone with some authority will read this and take it for what it is.
I didn't write this just to cuss you out. I know you must be getting complaints and negative feedback by the e-truckload. It's not a roast. Not even a warning. But more of a plea. We really enjoy Fannation. Or at least, we did.
If you want to delete me for pointing out that there are some serious problems here, so be it. But as evidenced by my position on the leaderboard, I'm not some sour-grapes whiner. I like FN. I like what it offers. But I can't ignore certain drawbacks.
I almost left the site once. I'd rather not be driven to doing it again, with more permanence.

Checked my fanmail and saw this link and decided to make a comment against my better judgement.
Per the Terms of use, we are allowed to post links, so any warning regarding such just go to show the type of drunk monkeys that are really running this place.
Randomly deleting users, warning users while other users are still allowed to be here is just unacceptable (we all know who I'm talking about).
People keep ask me why I'm done with everything except fanmail on this site and this is it.
If the moderation, as bad as it freakin is, was just consistent that's one thing but it's the inconsistency of it all that makes it worse (that and all the idiots that have now seem to have taken over the TD section of this once great site).
Back in the day (Josh and Krobe), the site wasn't perfect, but at least it was consistent. You knew if you were busted for using dupe accounts in a TD, you would be warned, then deleted. If you started vulgar TDs, you were gone. There were limits to what was considered appropriate for an avatar. Those mods did research to see if users had multiple accounts (very easy to check by the way).
It seems to me that certain users on this site must have something on the "moderators" to still be around (pics of them actually sober at work maybe or doing something nasty with ferrets).
That is why I now spend my days at the Rusty Nut (http://www.therustynut.com) - this does not violate the Terms of Use as they were worded this morning. And also, why I am looking forward to when http://www.informativesports.com really gets going.
They actually take into consideration when the members want to see, don't change the stuff that was great (in this case, blogs on this freakin site).
FN used to a be great place to come while working to while away the hours, but hasn't been the same in almost a year, and as of late has gotten really bad.
Porkins - great job, unfortunately, SI, FN, whoever, doesn't care because they'll always have the idiots bumping up their "member numbers" even though the combined IQ of this site would barely crack 100 if all the great people left (as you said some have already left and these latest incidents will probably cause the rest to leave).
Well done Porkins, but it is going to fall on deaf, drunken monkey ears.

As I said on Duq's final blog, the site is going to drive off all the quality, and be left with nothing but chaff.
Now pay attention, because this part matters. Chaff doesn't make the world go 'round. All those ad dollars that flow in will dry up real quick when the only users left are bunch of whining pre-pubescent jackholes with no money of their own.

Don't be silly... everyone checks off the "I'm over 13" box, so they must be able to buy wrinkle cream!

Thanks for spending it on me, Thug. I was wondering as to your whereabouts.
And I suppose you're right...the decline was pretty quick.

Hmmm. Haven't been on the site for two weeks and it appears things are only getting worse. Too bad, I used to love this site.

More than you love therustynut.com or informativesports.com? Because you can't link other sites like therustynut.com or informativesports.com. I mean, merely typing the names of sites like therustynut.com or informativesports.com can get you in big trouble, so you should avoid typing thinkgs like therustynut.com or informativesports.com.

Porkins - thanks for saying some things that need to be said (apparently over and over again). If it were only a matter of moving to another site, these things would not need to be said. But there is (or at least was) much promise in the FN/Si site - potential which has not been reached and now may never be reached.
In a way it is sobering to watch something with the possibility of being a Mercedes become a Yugo.
