So much for that "clean" home run record that everyone was oh so willing to hand over to Alex Rodriguez. It has been reported by SI.com that Alex Rodriguez failed a steroids test during his 2003 MVP season. Yawn. Should it be shocking that anyone failed a steroids test during this past decade? Even the media proclaimed "Golden Child"? About the only people that I would believe didn't take steroids right now are Cal Ripken and Ken Griffey. That's it. Cynical? Maybe. But given the sports world that we've lived in for the past 10 years since Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa "revitalized" baseball, is it really shocking that Alex Rodriguez is the latest name to be brought into the steroids controversy? Not really. I wonder how long it's going to take for Congress to waste another couple million dollars and bring A-Rod in to testify about his use of PED's, and if A-Rod will take the same path as every other person who walked into the Congressional offices and say "I didn't do anything wrong." Let's just hope he doesn't wag his finger at them like Rafael Palmeiro did two months before he was suspended for PED's. This is just the latest in the long line of black marks to stain the reign that is Bud Selig's years as commissioner of MLB. Isn't it interesting the timing of this announcement too, just a week before pitchers and catchers are due to report for spring training. Guess where all the media is going to be? Down in Yankees camp, of course, trying to get a comment from Alex Rodriguez. Welcome to the 2009 version of the Bronx Zoo.
