Tonight I played in a game that I normally avoid like the plague, but when you have a choice between no poker....and bad poker...well, obviously I have no problem making the choice.

So this game is a $30 buy in, 20 person game.  You start with 33,000 in chips, and the blinds start at 100-200.  But the kicker is:  They double every 20 minutes.  So within a couple of hours, they are at 2500/5000.  Add in the fact that the game is full of chasers and wanna-be's, and you see the problem.

One player raised with 3-5 a couple of times, and flopped a straight both times.  That's running lucky.  Another player called my all in when I had flopped a straight, and he had top pair.  It looked like this:  I had 7-8-9-10-J from the big blind....unraised.  I had the J-7 in my hand.  He had Q-10.  I shoved all in just to get him to fold and go away, but he called with top pair and blah kicker.  Of course, the river...a Jack for his higher straight.  Luckily I had him covered, but it left me critical in chips.

But 4 hands later, and I was back in the running for the title.  I had A-A and raised, another guy reraised, I raised back....and he shoved all in.  Of course, he had K-K, and I took him down.

Top four got paid, and when we hit the top 4 (I took out the bubble when she had 7-7, and I put her all in with A-J.  Flop was 2 more Jacks to make the money) which put me 3rd in chips.  Then some good hands, and very timely bluffs...and I took out 4th when I flopped trips.

I then put a big hurt on #2 in chips....and #1 finished him off.  Since he was the guy that rivered the Jack to hurt me earlier....I was extremely happy to send him to the rail.

So we got heads up, with me a slight underdog in chips.  Four hands later, I was counting my first place winnings.  What can I say?  He didn't believe I had pocked Kings two hands in a row.  He's a believer now.

So, February started off just like January ended.  $300 richer I headed home.

By the way, I'm only $248 richer, since I got a $52 speeding ticket on the drive.  But, I was actually doing 14 MPH over, and the nice sheriff only wrote me for 4 over.  Doesn't even get reported to my insurance company.  It has been a good night.

Til next time!
