Long time no see.
Its big Chaco and I've been travelling. I started in Mexico City and made my way south. Now I'm in El Salvador and will be at the Estadio Cuscatlan for the game against T&T. I've been in a couple countries and there's excitement for the upcoming hexagonal. here are my observations.
MEXICO -- So I arrived in Mexico City a month ago and I was shock by the subtle resignation the Mexican press has about the game. The media is trying hard to get everybody excited for the upcoming game in Columbus. The Guardado injury really has people worried. There is also the controversies about Sven but thats another story. Mexico knows they'll qualify, but the quality of the game and wins are a worry. Nevertheless, I was surprised by the lack of enthusiasm. Recently, I saw Pavel Pardo call out and criticize the media. Saying that they're "not Mexican and do not want a World Cup".
HONDURAS -- I arrived in Honduras the day after the COPA UNCAF ended. And all they talk about is the battle in San Jose against Costa Rica. Hondurans are excited and ready to take on the region. And who can blame them, they probably have the most offensive firepower in the region with Costly, Palacios, Figueroa, Suazo, Rambo Leon and Amado Guevara to name a few. I believe the game between Catrachos and Ticos will have the most fireworks in the first round of games.
EL SALVADOR -- Salvadorans here are excited, but with more of a party attitude than a battle-hardened one. Everybody here is cautious about T&T. They know T&T is a tough, physical team and will not take them lightly. there is immense respect for the Soca Warriors. After 12 years without being in an hexagonal, Salvadorans are going all out to get to South Africa. I'll be at the game and i'll blog on it.
I hope 2009 is going well for you guys. And let the HEX begin!
