After watching A-Rod's sit-down with ESPN's Peter Gammons about six times (seriously SportsCenter? you've re-aired it more than the ESPYs, and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet), I feel compelled to come forward with a confession of my own. In the spirit of being completely open and honest and moving forward, I need to come clean: I am now a college basketball fan.
Whoa.
I know I always said I hated it and didn't understand it and liked football better (that part's still true) and couldn't watch it because their shoes are too squeaky and annoying. What can I say? I was young and stupid. I mean, I'm only 23. I'm going to make mistakes, because I'm still figuring everything out.
I admit that in the past, I was an outspoken basketball hater and I do regret that, but I think at that time, I didn't even want to admit my true feelings to myself. Also, ACC basketball games pre-empted Gilmore Girls on countless occasions. Do you realize how many times I had to come home early on Saturday nights to catch the rescheduled airing of a new episode? Trust me, a bruised 16 year old heart does not easily forget such a betrayal.
Still, that's not an excuse. I'm older now, and wiser, and I want to come out with the truth. I don't hate basketball. I'm actually addicted to basketball now - Maryland basketball, actually, so no one can legitimately say I'm a bandwagon girl. Rather than scheduling other things to do when the game's on, I make my schedule around the games. I'm going out of town this weekend, and I already checked tv listings for where I'll be to see if the game will be televised, and if the hotel gets that channel, and then made late dinner reservations to avoid conflict. You think I'm joking? I don't joke about basketball. Not anymore, dude.
I also would like to take this opportunity to apologize to all my ex-boyfriends who are hardcore Terps basketball fans (funny how I didn't admit I was a fan until those relationships were all over). I didn't mean for my anti-basketball attitude to cause any tension between us, and I'm so sorry I was a brat when you wanted to watch the games. I can't go back and fix it, but I can go forward and not make the same mistakes in the future.
I still (yes, still) don't always know what's going on when I watch the games. Then again, I don't always know what I'm doing in Photoshop either, but I can figure out how to draw a big pink heart around a picture of Dave Neal's face. Not that I've ever done that. Honestly, you can believe me, now that I've realized the truth will always set me free.

I wonder if Clemens or Bonds name is among the other 100 names... and if so is that the reason why the list has not been released?
