If all reports are true, A-Rod, ala A-Roid, ala Hemaroid to Bud Selig, won't be suspended in any way by the MLB Commissioner after the MLB knew that A-Rod had taken PED's.
Now, not knowing the drugs policy, but presuming it's similar to our Aussie Rules policy due to the fact that the same Aussie legal team helped design it, one of two things has happened in the positive test.
Firstly, unlike ours, it's not when or how you got caught, but who got caught. I'm sure we all know the "Joe Outfielder" who got suspended at some time for testing positive.
With 104 players reportedly on the "list", one can only assume that there are 104 out of 104 that are the games elite. If not, where's Andy Petite's suspension??
Secondly, let's presume both policies are alike.
Here's what I mean. Let's say player A (A-Rod) & player B go out on a drug & alcohol fuelled party. Some days later, on game day, player B tests positive & is suspended whilst player A tests positive at practice.
Player B's reputation is tarnished whilst player A's results are hidden from everyone bar the MLB front office & the teams doctors.
That's the system here, except player B would be suspended for 2 years, proving how soft the MLB policy really is.
Now, here's the real debate. Are narcotics, such as cocaine, classed as PED's? WADA says yes, & rightly so, but our sporting honchos say no. I'm not sure what the MLB thinks. Maybe someone can enlighten me on this.
Back to A-Rod, will Zelig at least strip A-Rod of his AL MVP title like the the IOC stripped Marion Jones? Is A-Rod going to face criminal charges? The precedent is there to commence such a process.
Finally, with the leaking of A-Rod into the free world, presumably from the "list", what is now stopping our media outlets from naming our players without the threat of prosecution.
A journalist aquaintance of mine has the names of 5 of our "Super Bowl" winning players (we call them Grand Final) but was surpressed in the courts from naming them. We all know the team, but even if I named the players, it would land me in court. I know 3 of those names (the perks of doing a sports show) given by sources at a team function.
I know some people on this site who don't want to know the 104, some who assume some of the 104, whilst I'd would like all names released & for what they were taking. I'm sure the Government knows the names after the Clements case.
Or, will this be the US sporting equivilent of Roswell??
