What went through their mind? "HMMMM, let's see Mike Leech brought this Football program to new heights, made it a National Championship contender, and has done a great job recruting.... let's piss him off so he doesn't come back."
They've tried to paint him off as the evil mastermind that's trying to get a contract that HE likes. Instead of trying to find a comprimise, TT decides it's going to try to smear Leech.
What would the Red Raiders do without Leech? Nothing more than likely. Leech is a great play-caller, his play calling was the only reason they were that good last season. There recruiting would take a massive blow, and they'd probably make a return to mediocrity.
I'm not saying the contract Leech and his agent presented should be accepted, I'm saying the way Texas Tech has gone about it has maybe crippled the team.

I`m not a TT fan--but i give them their due, their offense is always awesome and last year it was even a couple of cloud layers higher. With a much improved defense, they made a good season run before the season ending collapse. I think they drained their bucket beating my Longhorns
( OH THE PAIN OF THAT LATE GAME DROPPED INTERCEPTION ), TT fans however are probably the strangest--ficklest--most unrealistic--blindest bunch of farmers ive ever seen. If their team gets behind big --they disappear, even in home games.
And then the mysteriously ungrateful treatment of Mike Leach by the Regents. I wonder if professional jealousy and the old " we need to show him who`s boss" attitude came into play there. I dont care much for TT or Leach, but he seems to have made reasonable requests concerning his contract. OH one more thing---
Texas Tech---PLEASE drop the horribly corny "GUNS UP' slogan, its embarrassingly weak and it can never compete "HOOK EM" as THE Texas slogan--dont even dream.

Good comments Bedias90. I just wonder about the overtones or subliminal messages on slogans. Being involved with law enforcement, the slogan "GUN'S UP" perterbs me, as it implies a violent act. I too like "HOOK EM" better, as it implies a sensual rather than violent act.

"''' the slogan "GUN'S UP" perterbs me, as it implies a violent act...."
A cow goring someone's visceral is not violent, of course.
It happens frequently at bullfights and at rodeos where the horns are turned on a rider, hooking him after he's on the ground.

"What would the Red Raiders do without Leech? . . . . . they'd probably make a return to mediocrity."
Without leech they would PROBABLY RETURN to mediocrity? I've got some bad news for you, TT has already returned there and they weren't gone long.
I ask myself, who can they beat this year? Surely, the aggies who are weak now. Maybe Baylor, but baylor played them tough last year when Tech was much better, this year baylor will be improved and Tech is depleted. OU and Oklahoma state will crush them. You think maybe Texas might have something extra for them this year in Austin? I could also see them losing to a decent Univ of houston team and Nebraska is probably the best big 12 north team this year.
I don't think TT will even be bowl eligible. They have a long tough season ahead of them. So don't worry about TT 'returning' to mediocrity, They've already arrived at sucking the big one.
