Obituary

 Jeremy Lusk, November 26th 1984 - February 10th 2009

Freestyle Motocross lost one of its brightest stars on Tuesday when Jeremy Lusk died two days after an horrific accident whilst competing at the X-Knights competition in San Jose, Costa Rica. He was 24 years old.

Lusk died as a result of head injuries suffered when he crashed headfirst to the ground after failing to complete a full rotation of a Hart Attack backflip. He had suffered an almost identical accident in the Freestyle Semi Finals at the 2007 X Games, but escaped unscathed.

The talented rider, a member of the Freestlye Moto group Metal Mulisha, was born in San Diego in 1984. He had been riding motorcycles since the age of three and turned professional at 19.

He enjoyed success at the 2008 X Games, winning the Freestyle gold medal as well as a silver medal for Best Trick after landing the first double-grab Hart Attack Backflip. Also in 2008 Lusk won a Bronze Helmet at the Moto X World Championships and two gold medals in an X Games Mexico competition - he finished third in the Dew Tour series standings, and he was never lower than fourth in a string of high-level international events.

He is survived by his wife, Lauren.
