A lot of people are talking about Giants RB Derrick Ward leaving since he's stated he will test the market. I would think that if Ward goes, that there's no better replacement for him than Fred Taylor. Just like Ward, Taylor is shifty, quick, strong runner who's and effective pass catcher. I'm not sure if Fred is willing to take on the Wind nickname, but I know he'd be willing to hoist the Lombardi in South Florida next year and the Giants give him a great chance to do so.
If Ward leaves, Tom Coughlin will certainly push for a signing of Fred Taylor since Coughlin drafted him while in Jacksonville. Coughlin's Super Bowl ring has earned him some pull with the Giant's front office and I would bet if Coughlin wants Taylor there, he'll be there. Not only will he fill Ward's "wind" role, but he will also serve as a great leader in the locker room and could only help Brandon Jacobs' maturity as a runner.
No matter what, I hope Fred Taylor signs with a contender, because that guy deserves a Super Bowl ring.

Too bad it makes absolutley no sense for the Giants to sign him. Even though he is ageing, he is still going to command a big salary, something the Giants cant give him when they have a lot of other needs.
Another reason is that he wants to be the primary guy. He doesnt want to share the load with 2 other guys...it makes no sense for the Giants to sign him.

I see the Coughlin connection but if the Giants lose Ward, everyone will move up a rung on the depth chart. It would be Jacobs, Bradshaw and Ware. Fans have been clamoring for Bradshaw to get more touches. However, the Giants could draft Javon Ringer to fill Ward's void if they decide Ware is not the answer.

My thought the Giants need that veteran back-up,just in case BJ either gets hurt for a week or two, or,I dont want to see this senario,placed on IR....We cant have that besides Bradshaw could still benefit of solid tutaledge(SP)......Also,in one of the mock drafts, the Giants may draft Donald Brown from UCONN.......He would be brought along the same way Bradshaw has......

The guy has had a great career, and keeps himself in good shape, but I wouldn't lay out much money for a running back who is 33 years old and coming off a season where his output fell off considerably from the year before. His yards per carry fell from 5.4 to 3.9. Granted the Jags fell off across the board, but how much bounce back does the typical running back have at this point in their career?
If the Giants could get him on the cheap, I think he would probably be worth it.

KingYaz, neither of the Jags starting OGs played a full game last season due to injury. Their 3rd best OG didn't play a down because of 2 different injuries, and their center missed 6 or 7 games during the year.
MJD had a much lower ypc last season also. It wasn't taylor's fault he had only 3.9 ypc.
If I were the Giants I would do it. If something happens to Jacobs, I can't see Bradshaw carrying the load on offense. Those RBs would learn a lot from Taylor just like MJD has.

THere's no way a team is going to make a 33 year old RB their primary starter. Taylor knows that. Where are you hearing he only wants to be starter? I think your being misinformed, especially since he always enjoyed spliting time with MJD. Anyway, Ward is going to command a bigger salary than Taylor is, I can almost guarantee that, so letting Ward get his money from another team and signing Fred would save them money. Of course, this was just a thought of mine and the Giants have more pressing issues to take care of. WR, LB, DB.
Anyway, Taylor is smart enough to know he needs to seek closure in his career not money. He's made plenty of that. Taylor should be willing to take less money from a team like the Giants with a good OL and strong supporting cast than take a little more money a go to a team like the Bengals, Browns, or Texans where he'll most likely not win much and the run blocking is questionable. The Patriots are an interesting option, but Taylor knows thats a passing team and I don't know if he'll want to be apart of that.
